Author Interview | Getting To Know Megan Short

Welcome Megan Short to our blog today. We are going to have a little fun while we learn a little more about Megan.

Can you introduce yourself to us?

I’m an Australian author of Inspirational Romantic Suspense. I live in Melbourne but write primarily for the American market — Love Inspired Suspense. I love the Alaska setting, so you’ll be seeing many books set in Alaska from me.

When you were a child did you have a favourite book or books?

I loved mysteries, in particular Enid Blyton’s books as well as Sherlock Holmes.

Do you have a favourite Genre to both read and to write?

I enjoy reading and writing within my genre – inspirational romantic suspense. I do read widely, though, and enjoy many genres.

When did you know you wanted to be an author?

I knew when I was about three years old.

How did you go about being published?

I took the long way, via screenwriting! WhileI didn’t make it as a screenwriter (yet!), the experience helped me so much with my craft. In screenwriting you need to focus on dialogue and structure so much that transitioning into novels wasn’t as hard as I expected. In terms of actually being published, that was entirely God’s work. I can take no credit for it at all. He opened every door. Provided me with writer friends at ACFW and a wonderful mentor (Dana R Lynn). Once the book was ready, He provided an agent (Lynette Eason), and an amazing editor. He held my hand every step of the way, even giving me my first contract on my birthday! I remain in awe.

What inspired you to write Alaskan Police Protector?

It began with a multi-hook! Dana had recommended I try and put four hooks and a trope together and work from there. These were Alaska (because I’d travelled there and it’s awesome!), a child
(the reason for my heroine being in Alaska), a K-9 (because…cute!), a law enforcement officer hero (to investigate the crime). Then I had the trope of a woman in peril. From there, I just put it together. It’s hard to describe the process because I wasn’t sure “whodunit” at the start. I just knew that someone was attacking this poor woman and I wanted to find out why! Then when I learned how Samuel was suffering, I wanted to find a biblical message that would resonate with him.

How has the writing process been for you?

It varies book to book. Sometimes I have a full character profile before I start. Other times, I have a vague idea and have to do research on the kind of person who might choose the profession or behave in a particular way. I generally try to do a full outline because that’s what I’m used to from
screenwriting. But “Act 3” always changes, so it’s more directions than a specific map. The one unchanging element is God’s hand on it all. My latest book (coming in June 2026) required a significant rewrite at the behest of my editor. It wasn’t until I’d finished it that I could look back and see what God was doing with that—the biblical message suddenly became much clearer.

What do you hope readers will take home out of your books?

I hope that readers will be entertained by the story—hopefully readers can relax and take a break from the world. I especially hope they will be encouraged in their faith.

If you could have a meal with 3 living people who would you choose and why?

1. My best friend because she lives overseas and I rarely see her, so all face-to-face time is precious.

2. My agent because I have never met her face to face, and I would love to have some time to informally chat with her about her writing.

3. J Warner Wallace because I would love to talk him into doing a collaboration of some kind that involves his skills in apologetics and cold cases with my skills in writing romantic suspense.

Finally can you tell us about your latest release. Where can buy the book and where can we find you on the web?

Alaskan Police Protector by Megan Short

To save a child, he has to risk his own life.
When a minivan slides off the road into an icy lake, Officer Samuel Miller narrowly
rescues a woman and child from certain death. Only, Rachel Harding insists the
crash is no accident — it’s eerily similar to how her sister and brother-in-law recently
died. As the unexplained attacks escalate, Samuel is determined to protect Rachel
and her orphaned niece at all costs. But when they make a shocking discovery, their
investigation becomes even more dangerous, and survival may be impossible.
