Fast Nine
Here are my quick answers to the questions fired at me. I was supposed to choose five…
Long black or flat white?
I don’t drink coffee. Let’s do a banana smoothie.
Kiwis or koalas?
Koalas
Mangoes or kiwifruit?
Mangoes
Cricket or rugby?
CRICKET!!
Hobbits or Mad Max?
Books or TV?
Really, you want me to choose?
Sun or snow?
Only ever seen snow a couple of times. Sun is nice, but snow seems to be magical and fairyland-like. It’s probably all mud and mush, but hey, we can live in fantasy land.
Desert or sea?
Actually I like the inland. I don’t mind looking at the ocean, but I’m not a fan as much as the inland. Desert might be a bit too far inland.
Plotter or pantser?
What!?!?
Getting to Know Meredith Resce
What’s something interesting or unusual about you that not everyone knows?
When I grow up, I want to be like my grandmother. A true pioneer spirit, a resourceful woman who grew everything in her garden, preserved or pickled everything she could get her hands on, and who never let anything go to waste. The original re-cycler. She was also outside the influence of fashion, and this is where I want to be.
Where are you from?
Originally? Melrose – Southern Flinders Ranges South Australia. Moved all round since I got married, but always head back to the farm as often as possible.
What is your town or city most famous (or infamous) for?
Mt Remarkable National Park and Bike trails. And me?!? 🙂
What books are set in your town/city?
One Remarkable Year, Where there’s Smoke, The Schoolmaster’s Bride and The Schoolmaster’s Daughter (though with these two, I changed the name of the town).
An author friend of mine also set one of her novels in my town “The Peppercorn Project” by Nicki Edwards.
About Your Writing
What do you write?
Christian fiction mostly – period drama romance, contemporary romance, time travel adventure, crime-drama (under pen name EB James), murder mystery and two non-fiction titles.
Who or what are your main writing influences?
I am inspired by history, anecdotal stories from my family history, old buildings and historical sites. Once the story is written, my main writing influence are those editors who sort me out quick-sticks.
Do you have any books published?
Yes – 18 titles
How long have you been writing?
Writing since 1991, published since 1997
What inspired you to start writing?
I was bored and had been banned from buying any new books (I’d just discovered CF). When I discovered I was imagining plot and dialogue for real people, I figured it shouldn’t be too hard to do the same for imaginary characters. Once I started, it was like a drug, and I wrote every available moment I could find – in a lined book, with a pen. I didn’t even own a computer at the time. The first three novels I wrote by hand are still in the bottom drawer, and will probably stay there until I get the courage to get them out – cringe – and rewrite.
What’s your favourite part of the writing process?
Reading what has just evolved from the day’s plotting. Characters are always doing and saying things in the heat of the moment I had not previously thought about.
What’s your biggest writing challenge?
Finding time, and the repetitive strain injuries that sometimes develop when I don’t do enough stretching.
How does your faith impact your writing?
I write how I live life. If there is an opportunity to share faith, wisdom or grace, as in life, I do it with care. I don’t like to preach in novels anymore than I would stand in a shopping mall and hound people with the message – no matter how wonderful that message may be. If it is appropriate for my characters to share their faith experience, they will. If it is not appropriate, they will just be normal. But I do love it when the inspiration (that is surely God given) carefully reveals something of Him.
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for taking the time to read.
Meredith what you’ve shared is exactly what I guessed about you. Prolific! I appreciate how you (and your characters) share your faith…so natural. Thanks!
Thanks Rita. I love to share my faith. I mean really LOVE to share, but if the person is not open to receiving, then I go by the old adage: “Share the Gospel at all times, and if necessary, use words”. Sometimes faith is shared silently.
I enjoyed getting to know you that little bit more, Meredith!
Thanks for sharing, Meredith. It was great getting to know a little more about you 🙂
Hi Meredith good to get to know you more and LOVE that I have another Cricket fan! You need to write a book featuring cricket.
I’ll keep the cricket idea in mind 🤔
Lovely interview, Meredith. Thanks for sharing. 🙂
