Tuesday Book Chat | What’s your favourite point of view?

What's your favourite point of view? First person, third person, or it doesn't matter?

It’s Iola here. Welcome to our Australasian Christian Writers Tuesday Book Chat, where we encourage book lovers to answer our bookish question of the week.

Today’s question is:

What’s your favourite point of view? First person, third person, or it doesn’t matter?

I know some people don’t like first person, but I’m not one of them. I’m mostly the latter—it doesn’t matter to me, as long as it’s a great story. But I don’t like third person that’s pretending to be omniscient 🙂

We look forward to hearing your thoughts. Please join in the conversation in a comment on this post or in a comment on the blog post shared in our Australasian Christian Writers Facebook Group. Or, if you’re feeling wordy (like me), write a blog post and link to it in the comments.

Let’s chat!

  1. My favourite would be deep third person POV. I enjoy this because gives the flexibility of multiple POV characters but still gives practically the same level of intimacy as first person.

I don’t dislike first person and am happy to read in this as well.

I do have to admit, though, I have a nostalgic fondness for second person POV as used in the choose your own adventure books I grew up with. They cast me in the role of the hero, which was fun.

  2. You know I don’t think it really matters to me. As long as it is a good book, that is fine with me. 🙂 Have a Great week. God Bless you.

  3. I like first-person but enjoy deep 3rd person POV more because you get to see the thought processes of say your main protagonists. Whereas with only one POV you’re never really sure what the other person is thinking. Also, it probably makes a lot more work for an author to give you hints.
Writing 3rd person is fun. You have to be that person and think like them. 🙂
