Book Review | His Runaway Crush: (Easter in Gilead Book 3) by Heather Gray

Today I am reviewing His Runaway Crush by Heather Gray. Book 3 in the Easter in Gilead series. Appropriate for Good Friday.

Book Description:

Can once upon a time turn into happily ever after?

Letty Stanton might live in Gilead, but Heavenly Brew is her home. After all, home is where the heart is. Letty has spent a decade running from a past she never wanted to face and keeping at arms’ length all the people who hold her close to their hearts. When a handsome stranger blows into town, though, he upsets the calm and comfortable life she’s worked so hard to cultivate.

Dawson Bauer is new to small-town life. From the four-year-old who couldn’t whisper if her life depended on it to the middle-aged man who only speaks in grunts and glares, Gilead is filled with quirky people who think privacy is a mythical creature. Not to mention that everybody is obsessed with Easter, and he’d be happy to never hear that word again. Then there’s the enigmatic woman who runs the town’s coffee shop. There’s something about her…

What happens when a guy who mostly means well and a girl with mile-high walls collide? Sparks fly, secrets come to light, and everybody in Gilead has an opinion.

My Review:

This is the third book in the  Easter in Gilead series. This time the main characters are Letty and Dawson.  We have met these two Characters in the previous books so it was nice to read their stories. Dawson has started work at Gilead Bible College but doesn’t realise he has to do the sound for the annual Easter Passion Play.  It is here he meets Letty who is incharge of refreshments.

We learn early on that Dawson likes to avoid Easter and learn why. Where as Letty has her own issues. She thinks she is invisible by keeping a low profile and not sharing her life. It’s clear Letty has secrets which has forced her to have walls to protect herself. Dawson also has issues he needs to deal with.

Add to the mix some quirky characters and we have another great read. I actually enjoyed some of the side characters. Some of the antics and comments are so fun. Oh and than there is Aubry, she is about 5 and a scene stealer. I found the story flowed so well and wanted to know more about what was happening. There is a lot going on with Letty and Dawson’s past and what it means for the present. I love seeing how the town support Letty even though she thinks no one really notices her. Seeing the different aspects of how the the play comes together has been interesting.

I wish I could talk more about the book as there is so much I would like to talk about but I won’t give spoilers. If you read the book and what to chat then I would love to chat about it.

The series that just keeps getting better.

Do you have any plans for Easter?
