Book Review | Pets Amore

Today I am reviewing Pets Amore a Collection of four novellas.

Book Description:

This romantic comedy collection contains four novellas:

“Out-of-the-box Valentines” by Amy R. Anguish

Kimberly Winters loves being a kindergarten teacher on Valentine’s Day. But she never expects one of her students to show up with his hamster … or his uncle. Trey Jones doesn’t mind helping out his sick sister by dropping off Rylan at school. Staying to take his sister’s place as “room mom” is a whole different deal, but how can he turn down the adorable teacher? It’s a day full of unexpected surprises for both of them, including each learning to think out of the box when it comes to romance.

“No Butts About It” by Linda Fulkerson

When real estate consultant and confirmed bachelor Charles Sterling’s brother and sister-in-law are killed in a car crash, they leave him a surprise in their will—their five-year-old daughter. Enamored by a character in a popular children’s book, the girl has one request for her uncle-turned-father: a pet goat. As Blossom Clarke struggles to fulfill her deceased father’s dream of developing her family’s property into a goat rescue center, she has no time for city dwellers. But when Charles Sterling shows up to buy a goat, that dream borders on becoming a nightmare. Especially when his company discovers her property checks off all the boxes requested by a high-power client.

“Pegboards, Parrots, and Pickup Lines” by Heather Greer

Charlotte Herring wants one thing—to prove she can succeed on her own. But to avoid failure, she needs the people of Brookview to accept her and her antique store. For years, Tyson Abbott’s only goal was to realize his father’s dreams for the family hardware store. After meeting the town’s newest resident, he adds a new goal—helping Charlotte find her place in Brookview. With a parrot named Cracker Jack paving the way for their partnership to become a romance, Charlotte and Tyson see more than the dreams for their stores coming true. But when their plans conflict and past hurts resurface, will they lose their dreams and each other?

“Snowflakes and Puppy Love” by Beth E. Westcott

When Cooper Stiles walks in the door of Archer Books, his stunning blue eyes and friendly smile pull at Brianna Kinney’s heart. He’s the first man she’s attracted to since becoming a widow. The new clerk in Robin Archer’s bookstore catches Cooper’s eye. Brianna’s love for children and her cute puppy are captivating, but he doesn’t have time for dating. His current priority is caring for his nephew and niece while their mother, his dead brother’s wife, fulfills a work commitment overseas. And he’s not going to get caught up in any more match-making.

My Review

Thanks to the publisher for my review copy.

I enjoyed this novella collection. Having animals trying to upstage the characters was so fun.

“Out-of-the-box Valentines” by Amy R. Anguish

We meet Kimberly Winters who is a kindergarten teacher who loves her students and has some wonderful ideas. Trey Jones gets roped into helping after bringing his sick sisters son Rylan to school. Rylan has bought show and tell albeit a few days late due to being sick the week before. A hamster called Houdini. Kimberly has the day planned out but Houdini wasn’t part of the day. Trey was only dropping his nephew off but ends up being class mom for the day. Being an Australian Valentines days as a child wasn’t a thing. I love reading how the kids celebrate and the different things they do. The interaction between Kimberly and Trey was good and the whole story is fun and refreshing. Great start to the book.

“No Butts About It” by Linda Fulkerson

Charles Sterling is now the guardian of his 5-year-old niece who after reading a book wants a pet goat. Blossom Clarke is in the process of setting up a goat refuge. At the beginning we see Charles in a high profiled job with highflyers as his clients. Whereas Blossom is very down to earth and loves her farm with the goats and other animals. Which makes for a fun meet up. We meet a goat who thinks it’s a dog. A dog that is a surrogate mother, ducks and a few other animals. The one I remember most and could identify with some of the situations is the rooster. (If you have ever had an encounter with a rooster well this one lives up to that image). His niece Hannah is adorable. I loved the farmyard antics of the animals. But more so I enjoyed how the story unfolded. Charles learning about being a father to his brother’s daughter, learning about goats, to the encounters with Blossom. The romance is fun too.

“Pegboards, Parrots, and Pickup Lines” by Heather Greer

In this story Charlotte Herring is opening an antique store in a new town and needs some goods from Tyson Abbott’s store. Opening a new store in a tight knit community can be daunting add the fact the original store was a well loved Candy store. This time the pet is a parrot called Cracker Jack. Like most parrots it often learns things that the owners would prefer it didn’t. This comes out early in the story and leads to some funny encounters. The way this story flows is good with the opening and beyond. We have a few misunderstandings which like many situations a little communication would have helped. This story continues the good vibes of this book.

“Snowflakes and Puppy Love” by Beth E. Westcott

Brianna Kinney is now working in a book store after her job as a teacher ended. She loves working at the store and loved the children’s section. Cooper Stiles is currently caring for his nephew and niece and comes into the store looking for a couple of books. This story is over a longer time frame which works well getting to know the different situations. Brianna adopts a sweet puppy who Cooper’s niece falls in love with. I enjoyed this story and the different events the town puts on. It is a really good ending for the book.

Unlike some novella collections where there is often a strong story and the others are good but not quite at the same level. This book I found each story just as good as the other and all different stories. If you like Contemporary romance and novellas and animals this is a book for you. It is the second Novella series I have read by this publisher and it won’t be the last.
