Book Review, The Love Script by Toni Shiloh

Dienece Darling offers a Book Review of Toni Shiloh’s contemporary romance The Love Script.

Book Blurb

A Hollywood hair stylist.

Nevaeh Richards loves making those in the spotlight shine but prefers the anonymity of staying behind her stylist chair, where no one notices her. But when a photo of Nevaeh and Hollywood A-lister Lamont Booker goes viral for all the wrong reasons, her quiet life becomes the number-one trending topic.

The silver screen’s latest heartthrob.

Lamont Booker’s bold faith has gained him a platform, and the authenticity of his faith is well known . . . until the tabloids cause the world to question everything he claims to be. With his reputation on the line, he finds himself hearing out his agent’s push for a fake relationship–something he never thought he’d consider in a million years.

A love that goes off script.

With their careers at risk, Nevaeh and Lamont have to convince the world that their scripted romance is more than just an act. But when fake seems to turn into something real, can Nevaeh trust her heart in a world where nothing is ever as it seems?

Dienece’s Book Review

We had Toni Shiloh join us last month in an author interview, and Narelle reviewed Toni’s latest release, A Run at Love.

This month, I have the pleasure of talking about book one of that series, The Love Script. A book I should have read last year if only I hadn’t misjudged the cover!

Have you ever done that? Looked at a book cover and passed over a real gem?

I’m drawn to covers with real people on them, and I don’t like Hollywood all that much. So, last year, I didn’t read this book.

Silly, silly me. I knew Toni writes great books.

Why did I end up reading The Love Script?

Chatter indicated the characters dealt with the importance of abstinence for unmarried Christians. Now, that intrigued me. So, I read The Love Script and wished I hadn’t waited so long. (Can I borrow a time machine and go back to last year and hit myself on the head?)

I finished this book within 27 hours!

Toni has this way of writing which drags you into a world, envelopes you there, and gets you so comfortable and involved that everything feels so real. You don’t even want to come up for air, or food, or sleep. (Pfft, those things are totally overrated when there is a good book on hand.)

I love the way Toni writes. It’s personal, and it’s relatable.

Both characters had growing to do, even the ‘good Christian girl’ didn’t have it all together. That was good to see.

There were good friendships, bad friendships, spiritual growth, tons of chemistry, family dynamics, and so much more to love! 🙂 Including this favourite quote of mine from the book:

“Most of us attend church to be fed. We want to be filled by the atmosphere, and we forget we’re there to worship God, not the other way around.”

Toni Shiloh, The Love Script

See what I mean? Such a great book with organic faith and real people (even if one of them is a rich Hollywood actor. Hats off to Toni for figuring out how to make that relatable to the average person).

I recommend The Love Script to fans of the ‘fake dating’ trope and contemporary romance that feels like it really could have happened, especially if you love romance written in first person with a taste of Hollywood flare thrown in.

Pick up your copy of The Love Script here! You won’t regret it. Awesome book.
