My Review

Thanks to the Author for my review copy.

This book kept me reading long after I should have stopped. I enjoyed the story and learning more about the characters. I could identify with some of the things Valerie had gone through in High School.

The book starts with a fire where we meet Brett and Valerie and her twin brothers. We learn the two knew each other in high school but Brett was a joker and when Valerie was bullied, he didn’t stop it.
Valerie is now working in an investment bank while Brett is a chef who is without his restaurant.

Reading the book was interesting as we see both points of view. We see how the past affected Valerie and how she still struggles because of it. At the same time, we see how Brett saw the same saw the same incidents. I could really identify with Valerie as I was bullied. We also can see how she struggles with some of the people involved when she meets them. I am really glad the author didn’t go the easy fix but showed how it still affects her. Personally, I would have been frustrated if there was an easy fix.

At the same time, we see why Brett was the class clown and how he too perceived things. This book really highlights how the same incidents can affect different people differently. I would love to talk more but you need to read the story yourself. This book would make a great book club pick.

There are a couple of 3-year-old twins who try to steal scenes which is so sweet. Watching how the two interact and seeing how both are struggling with their own thoughts makes the book even better. I will definitely read more books by this author as Meghann was another new to me author this year.

If you are looking for a contemporary that doesn’t gloss over issues this is a book you will want to read.

  1. Hi Jenny, Meghann’s book is on my tbr list. The consequences of childhood bullying is an issue that I haven’t seen a lot of in Christian romance and I’m intrigued by the story premise. Thanks for sharing your insightful review. 🙂
