Life gets noisy with deadlines and distractions. In the busyness, the words dry up, and creativity fades to the background.
That’s when I hear the gentle invitation whisper again:
Come away with me.
It’s an invitation I’ve learned to say yes to. One of the best ways I’ve experienced it is by retreating with other writers—kindred spirits who understand the wrestle of finding words, sharing stories, and putting your heart on paper.
But it’s more than writing. It’s friendship. It’s encouragement. It’s faith—woven through conversations, meals, prayers, and plenty of laughter.
Like-Minded Companions
There’s something powerful about spending time with people who get it. Writers carry similar dreams—and similar doubts. But when we gather, we remind each other that the words matter. That our stories matter.
Proverbs 27:17 tells us: As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.
Together, we sharpen each other’s creativity, faith, and courage. We invest in each other—not just in writing, but in life. We become each other’s cheerleaders, prayer partners, and trusted sounding boards.
Storyteller’s Rest
I experienced this in the most beautiful way recently with my dear friends, Amanda and Jodie. The three of us packed our notebooks and our hopes and headed to a little house in the country called Storyteller’s Rest.
It was autumn. The trees blazed with fire-red and gold leaves. Inside, the fireside chats were comforting, the tea was hot, and the conversations were rich.
Our cosy retreat was for Jodie’s birthday, and her simple wish was this:
Come away with me. Write. Share. Pray.
The weekend was divine—words flowed, hearts connected, and laughter echoed through that little house. We can’t wait to go away together again.
We’ve become what we call the Writing Sisters—sisters in Christ, sisters in writing. I’ve known Amanda for over twenty years, Jodie for over ten. Time is an investment, and as the years go by, the bond only deepens.
The Invitation Stands
Retreating isn’t running away. It’s creating space to remember who we are, what we’re called to, and Who called us in the first place.
Will you respond to the invitation to come away with me?
