“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” Psalm 46:10
Have you ever felt like someone is calling you or trying to get your attention? You slow down whatever you are doing and try to listen as hard as you can. A little while ago I thought I heard a knock on the door so I stopped for a moment and tried to pay attention. I didn’t hear anything, so I carried on with what I was doing. As I was leaving a little while later, I noticed a post office slip on my doormat asking to me to go pick a delivery. Turned out that I did hear knocking on my door, I just wasn’t paying enough attention. And my lack of attention meant I now had to go to the post office and pick up my delivery, something I was trying to avoid by having it delivered in the first place!
Paying attention to His whisper.
My walk with God feels like that sometimes. I occasionally find myself a little disconnected from God and I start making my own plans and walking them out. Without fail, in some way, shape or form, I start to hear my name being called. It generally isn’t an audible voice, more of a stirring, or a restlessness within that something isn’t right and that I should investigate further. Unfortunately, I don’t always pay enough attention to go and investigate it, I just keep going. However there are times that it is insistent, so I eventually follow the noise and as I get closer to it, I realise that it is God gently calling me to His side to show me a better way to do things. To show me His way.
Walking in God’s ways
We read in Proverbs 16:9 that a ‘man’s heart makes his way, but the Lord directs his steps.’ Isn’t that typical of us? I don’t know about you, but there have been many times in my life, too many to count, where God has had to step in and redirect my steps to align with His plans and purposes. There has been many a time when I haven’t stopped long enough to listen to God’s gentle whisper telling me which way I should go, instead I’ve barreled on ahead and hit multiple roadblocks along the way. [bctt tweet=”We think we know what’s best and that we know what we need, but the truth is that we don’t know best because only God knows best. #ACW #devotional #leilaarmstrong” username=”acwriters”] But.
God knows what we need.
God knows when we need it.
God knows how He will provide it.
Seek God
We can often forget that God created us and already knows the future. The One that created the heavens and the earth, that set the stars in the sky and named each one, knows better than we do. God knows what is coming and what we will need to get through it. He is God and it is his job to sort the world out and to guide us. Our job is to let Jesus lead; to stop and be still seek Him.
Seek His face.
Seek His heart.
Seek His voice.
When we put our faith and trust in Him, we won’t be let down. In trusting Him, we can be sure that we will be guided down the right road. That doesn’t mean that the path He leads us on will be painless or trouble free. No, we will all face those things, sometimes more than once and sometimes for long seasons. However, we can be assured that He will go before us and sustain us. We can take another step knowing that He is walking alongside of us. Knowing that He has and will continue to provide for us. Knowing he will be our comfort when the road is too hard to walk.
We just need to be still and know that He is God. Not was, not will be, IS. No matter what, He is God.
Reflection
How do you seek God?
Dear Leila, thank you for sharing this. Psalm 46:10 has been a very special verse in my life since a leader at a camp I attended in my early teens, many years ago now, shared that verse with me. Another verse shared by a camp leader in those years is Philippians 4:6 “Be anxious about nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known unto God.” As I have been waiting on God, working on being still before Him, and learning to give thanks in all things, even when the way is difficult, He has been giving His blessing and encouragement.
Thank you, Heather. That’s very encouraging to hear. And I agree about Phil 4:6, it is such a great verse and one that changes our heart and posture. Bless you xo
