I came across a song the other day called Sing Of This by Bethel Music. It’s an upbeat, faith song that encourages us to sing of who God is in our lives. Like many others, I can forget what I had for breakfast yesterday but can belt out a 90’s song at the top of my lungs without missing lyric. So when I come across songs that encourage my faith and my heart, I place them on repeat until the lyrics bury deep into my heart and mind.
And this song, Sing of This, is no exception.
Sing, my soul.
Oh my soul, sing of the faithfulness of God
Oh my soul, Your hallelujah
Sing for joy, sing of His never-ending love
Oh my soul, sing of this.
This song, like many other praise and worship songs, invites us to sing and speak out the character and goodness of God.
Sing of His goodness
Sing to the lifter of your head
Sing to the Healer
Sing to the One who gives you breath
Sing to the Savior
Sing of the love that conquers death.
Lift Your Voice
When we sing of God’s goodness and faithfulness, we not only remind ourselves of who God is, but we are declaring who He is to us. We are reminding ourselves and others around us that God is faithful. He is kind. He is our healer and redeemer and restorer.
In Psalm 77:11-12, the psalmist says,
11 I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago.
12 I will consider all your works and meditate on all your mighty deeds.”
Some of the lyrics in Sing Of This are:
When you sing you’ll get stronger
When you sing you’ll remember His promises
We need to lift our voices and speak, or sing out, the faithfulness of God. On the mountain tops and in the valleys, we need to remember the deeds of the Lord. We need to determine to remember all He has done for us. We need to determine to declare that God is faithful.
Yet, My Soul Will Sing His Praise
In Psalm 42:5, King David says, Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God. There are seasons that will bring us low, and life has a way of fogging up our memory and taking our eyes off Jesus. Pain and heartache and feelings of defeat make us forget the goodness of God. But we can’t allow life to shift our focus away from Jesus. Are our experiences and heartaches real and valid? Yes, absolutely. But our feelings can’t be what dictates who God is. He is who He says He is; He is “the Lord, who made all things, who alone stretched out the heavens, who spread out the earth by myself.” (Isaiah 44:24).
Today, would you determine with me to sing out from the depth of our souls that God is good? Would you lift your voice with me and sing of the faithfulness of God, of the strength of His outstretched arm, and of His unconditional love?
Jesus is faithful, and He is worthy of all our praise and adoration.
Reflection
How do you encourage your soul on the days when life is hard?

Songs definitely help me when I’m down. Thank you for the encouragement to remember to sing of Him.
Songs really are one of the best ways for me to encourage my soul in the hard seasons. I’ve tried poetry but it didn’t feel the same. Thanks for reading and commenting, Dienece!
