Today I am reviewing Down in the Dumpster by Page M. Davis & Susan Page Davis.
Book Description:
You never know what you’ll find in a Dumpster.
If Cassie had known the misadventures she’d get into on her stopgap job, she would have kept checking the help wanted ads. With her crabby dispatcher hounding her, she collects the rubbish from a senior citizens’ complex in her garbage truck.
When she empties the dumpster, a witness sees a body fall into her compactor. How will she explain this to Mac? And just as important, can rubbish and romance mix?
My Review:
I had wanted to read this book from when it first came out and finding it in KU put it to the top of the queue. Right from the first sentence I was hooked. Cassie works for a rubbish removal company as a driver emptying dumpsters. Cassie is emptying a dumpster at a senior citizens’ complex when one of the workers yells stop. There is a body. This isn’t what she expected when she took this job.
Meanwhile her supervisor has warned her she needs to stay on track when working and not stop and chat and help the residents. He contacts her to make sure she has left when she has to say what happened. It is interesting seeing the dynamics between the two at the beginning of the book.
Cassie can’t get what happened out of her mind and needs to know the residents are ok. This is where we are introduced to some fun characters. Mac struggles with Cassie’s perceived lack of professionalism, she should do her job and only her job. His way to relax is volunteering a couple afternoons a week at the local animal rescue shelter working with the dogs.
I wish I could talk more but you need to read the book. One thing I do love is the scenes at the dog shelter and the way some of the dogs react. The way they react and are depicted is very accurate.
They mystery keeps evolving and there is a sense of real danger at times which play out well. The ending is satisfying and I can’t wait for book two. I hope we get to see the senior characters again as well as the shelter dogs.
If you like mysteries where characters have different occupations, with quirky characters and animals give this book a go. I am yet to read a book by Susan Page Davis I haven’t enjoyed and this one is written with her daughter Page M Davis.
