Today I will be reviewing the second in the The Sweetbrier Inn Mysteries by Jan Drexler
Blurb:
The new art gallery in town is causing quite a stir, and Emma is in the middle of it!
The Sweetbrier Inn is filled with guests, and the town is teeming with tourists who have come to celebrate Paragon Days, the official kickoff to the summer tourist season. But even before the festivities start, amateur sleuth Emma Blackwood stumbles upon a dead body. With no visible signs of violence, Deputy Cal determines the death is from natural causes, but Emma isn’t so sure. Why would a seemingly healthy woman drop dead? And what does the picture she was holding have to do with it? If Emma doesn’t solve this puzzle soon, a killer may get away with committing the perfect crime.
My Review:
Another good book by Jan Drexler. I think this book is even better than the first one in the series. It could be because I know the characters more now. We also see Thatcher the dog and Tim the cat again. This time the town is getting ready for Paragon Days which kicks off the summer tourist season. Many of the business people are here only from May to October then head mostly south for the winter season. It is when Emma is talking to businesses owners about the inn she stumbles across a body. Emma and her friends at the Inn decide they have to investigate.
I also like the assortment of guests in the inn. They each add to the story. Another things I loved about the book is learning about parts of South Dakota. I didn’t realise it was so close to Wyoming. It is like doing a tour without leaving home. I spent most of the book trying to work out the mystery and while I had suspicions at times I was still surprised at different elements. The interaction between the local detective Cal who we meet in book one and Emma is fun. I am looking forward to more in this series.
If you enjoy Cosy Mysteries this one will fit the bill.
Thanks, Jenny!

It is fun, It helps reading book one first. but you would still be fine if you hadn’t read the first book.
Thanks, Jenny. I always enjoy hearing about books and authors. How I wish I had nothing else to do but read!
