Fiction Friday | Sky High by Meredith Resce

Today for Fiction Friday I’m sharing my book recommendation for Sky High, a delightful contemporary romance novella from Meredith Resce.

Here’s the Book Description:

A mid-air crisis. Federal police. Meeting the man of her dreams?

This is Mia Kennedy’s first international trip traveling alone, and her curiosity meant she almost missed boarding.

Embarrassed to have the loaded plane watch her find her seat, she hopes that nothing else will go wrong. But then she is seated next to a man who quickly proves to be an aggressive drunk. What starts out as an annoying situation quickly escalates into a mid-air incident—and Mia is right in the middle of it.

Lachie Fletcher is returning from LA to Adelaide, South Australia, after five years away. He’s hoping for a quiet flight, but becomes increasingly concerned for the young woman seated across the aisle as her traveling companion is not only drunk and belligerent, but becoming a danger to those around. When the cabin crew are forced to take action, they ask Lachie to assist in restraining the man.

Wrong place, wrong time?

Mia Kennedy appears to be overwhelmed by the incident, and more so when both she and Lachie are asked to remain aboard to be interviewed by the Australian Federal Police.

One incident leads to another where Lachie and Mia are thrown together in a circus of mis-happenings, supporting each other to finally reach their common destination.

When the pair are met at the airport by the famous Luella Linley—known for her matchmaking interventions—it could be a sign that they might not part company for good. Or is the mid-air crisis simply a matter of coincidence.

This light-hearted romance visits with some of the favorite characters from the Trinity Lakes Romance series, and the Luella Linley – License to Meddle series.

Narelle’s Thoughts:

I loved reading Sky High, a short novella that includes characters from Meredith Resce’s Luella Linley: License to Meddle and the Trinity Lakes Romance series story worlds. I was hooked into the story on the opening page because I’ve been that person in an airport (Honolulu in my situation) who has had their name called over the loud speaker and nearly missed an international flight back to Australia. Running through airports isn’t fun, and I totally related to Mia’s distress when she realised her flight could depart without her. I read Sky High in one sitting because I couldn’t put it down.

I was thankful that I haven’t been in Mia’s situation with a drunk and obnoxious passenger sitting next to me on a plane for hours and hours. It was excruciating to read but also realistic. I loved Lachie from the moment he appeared in the story. He has many attributes that I love in a romance hero and relatable flaws that are endearing.

I’m also a fan of the insta-love trope in short time frame romances when it’s the situation and circumstances that keep the characters together despite what they’re thinking and feeling. Mia and Lachie are an adorable couple and I loved seeing how their sweet romance developed during the story.

Sky High takes place after the three Luella Linley novels. It was so fun to see Megan and Cam again (from Organized Backup), and the delightful Luella Linley who can’t resist the opportunity to help people by doing some well-intentioned matchmaking. I think I appreciated and enjoyed the story more because I’d already read the three books in the Luella Linley: License to Meddle series. As soon as Luella turned up in the story, I knew we were in for fun and games, and that some crazy things could happen.

Mia is a Kennedy from the Trinity Lakes Romance series, and the story takes place after Caleb and Alanah’s romance in The Ocean Between Us. If you’ve read Meredith’s Trinity Lakes books, you’ll appreciate reuniting with the Kennedy family.

I recommend Sky High to contemporary romance readers who like short time frame novellas with insta-love, forced proximity, and vacation romance themes plus a relevant faith element in the story.
