Hope’s Reward by Carol Ashby

Publisher: Cerrillo Press (Released 1 December 2020)

Must the secrets we hide destroy our hope for a future?

For a gladiator slave, each time you step on the sand, it’s kill or die. When Ursus decides to follow Jesus, he must choose to die the next time he’s ordered to fight…or run away. He runs, taking again his childhood name, Matti. But he isn’t just trying to escape. He’s running to Thessalonica, where he hopes to find other Christians like the woman who led him to faith.

When Felicia’s new husband, Falco, almost kills her in a fit of rage, her uncle won’t help her end the marriage with his business partner. He will send her to her sister in Thessalonica, but only if she tells no one she plans to divorce Falco and demand her dowry back before she gets there. When Matti interrupts a robbery too late to save Felicia’s money for traveling by sea, he offers to bodyguard and escort her overland to their mutual destination.

After Matti risks everything to save her from Falco’s assassins, Felicia fears taking the danger to her sister’s family. When his Christian friends take them in, she discovers the deepest desires of her heart. But will the secrets of Matti’s past make a future together impossible?

Restoring Fairhaven

Restoring Fairhaven by Carolyn Miller

Publisher: Celebrate Lit Publishing, (Released 8 December 2020)

Taking on her ailing father’s gardening business on Merriweather Island, Samantha Green only wants to escape her ex and to make her father proud.

But Sam gets more than she bargained for when Greener Gardens accepts the job of restoring the gardens of a reclusive writer, Max Fairhaven, whose historical novels about romance and unrequited love litter bookstore shelves and movie marquees all over the world.

Max much prefers the fictional world to the real, and the gardening girl’s interruptions means he’s driven from his writing cave far too often for his liking.

How’s he supposed to craft stories with her distracting him all the time?

Things change when he learns something of Sam’s family challenges, and his admiration slowly kindles. With his secretary’s goading, he’s forced to confront the past, while facing the fact that he needs to change in order to avoid a lonely future.

Gentle pruning and a whole lot of banter forges a friendship between this not-so-Southern belle landscaper and the half-British author. But is their budding attraction enough to grow into a flourishing happily-ever-after?

Restoring Fairhaven is the final “Merriweather book,” but don’t forget to embark on a tour of the next island in this series featuring five islands, six authors, and a boatload of happily-ever-afters.

Grace & Space by Jodie McCarthy

Self published (released  6 December 2020)

In a world that constantly demands our attention and continually asks us to move faster, Jodie McCarthy found herself craving a quieter more contemplative way of living. One focused on God’s pace of life, and his priorities.

Life often takes unexpected twists and turns and in the midst of uncertainty Jodie has found grounding in prayer. These prayers were written from that truth and cover many stages of our everyday life.

She looks at the excitement and trepidation of new beginnings; the mundane yet sometimes beautiful daily routine; the pain of those times of unravelling; and the beauty of grace and space that is gifted to us in every part of our lives.

A Sense of Tiptoe by Karen Hayes

Publisher: Holland Park Press  (Released 12 November 2020)

A Sense of Tiptoe – and other articles of faith, a second full collection of poems by Karen Hayes, has a refreshingly singular subject. These engaging poems were written over a period of time and as part of different projects, yet they all touch on aspects of faith.

Karen Hayes was inspired by iconic churches, atmospheric locations, local legends, paintings, religious artifacts and more. She often takes a mundane situation and lifts it into something more spiritual. A visit to a museum is compared to a modern-day pilgrimage, she reflects how we struggle with our doubts, fears, superstition, disease, dead and loss. Yet far from being gloomy, there is always hope and her poems give you a warm feeling about life.

The poems, therefore, not only reflect on the religious aspects of faith but also deal with faith, or lack thereof, in ourselves and our surroundings.
