Author Interview | Getting to Know Rume Emma-Okerhe

Rume Emma-Okerhe

Today I’d like to introduce Rume Emma-Okerhe who has recently joined American Christian Fiction Writers, and who is visiting Australasian Christian Writers today to introduce herself and her writing.

Fast Four

Let’s start with a few quick questions!

Mangoes or kiwifruit?

Mangoes, please!

Books or TV?

Books all the way.

Sun or snow?

Sun. I always count down to summer time.

Plotter or pantser?

Plotter. I like to have a sense of where my stories are headed. I draw out my plot arc and then go from there. That doesn’t mean my characters don’t end up doing stuff that surprise even me the writer – if you know what I mean. Hahaha!

Now, let’s get into some harder questions.

What’s something interesting or unusual about you that not everyone knows?

I’m a homebody. I could go on holiday abroad and remain indoors half the time. Hahaha!

 Where are you from?

I am from Delta State, Nigeria.

What is your town or city most famous (or infamous) for?

Crude oil.

What books are set in your town/city?

None actually because I didn’t grow up in Delta. Most of my stories like Daughter of Benin, are set in England, where I live, or Lagos, where I born.

What a fascinating mix of cultures!

 About Your Writing

What do you write?

I write historical Christian romance with an overarching message of God’s love.

Who or what are your main writing influences?

I love Francine Rivers. Her books always inspire my heart.

I love Tessa Afshar. She challenges me to be excellent at my craft whilst living for an audience of one.

Do you have any books published?

Yes, I’ve got a novella.

How long have you been writing?

Actively, for about nine years now.

What inspired you to start writing?

I loved reading and writing since I was a child. But service to God and a heart to be a blessing drove me to actively hone my art. Ultimately, my Christian faith underpins my writing. I write because God will have me write.

I think that’s the same for a lot of us!

What’s your favourite part of the writing process?

It has to be part where you type, “The End”. It’s seeing how a story fleshes out from ideas almost always infinitesimal.

What’s your biggest writing challenge?

Balancing writing with a day job, and then getting written books into the readers’ hands. My first book was self-published. The entire process of getting a book out is quite challenging but also very informative and rewarding.

How does your faith impact your writing?

My faith is my message. It’s my writing. Like Francine Rivers said, take Jesus from the picture and this girl has got no story to tell!

Finally, where’s the best place to find you online?

My website and social media. I share good stuff on my newsletters so feel free to sign up.
