I get queasy at the sight of blood; I can feel lightheaded and extremely uncomfortable; I have a strong adverse reaction to the sight of blood. In vast contrast to how I respond to the sight, or thought, of human blood I feel strength and life when I reflect upon Jesus’ blood.
How is this possible? Because….
There is power in the blood of Jesus
In 1899 Lewis E. Jones wrote a wonderful hymn titled “There Is Power in the Blood”, in the hymn he unpacks the glorious truths:
- we can be free from the burden of sin;
- be victorious over evil;
- free from our passion and pride;
- become cleansed, in fact become whiter than snow, because sin-stains are lost in the blood of Jesus’ life-giving flow;
- we can serve Jesus our King; live daily for Him and sing our praises to Him;
ALL because there is power, power, wonder-working power in the blood of the Lamb (Jesus).
Why is the blood of Jesus so full of power?
Because blood is a currency, Hebrews 9 explains in great detail the sacrifices that were required for atonement, a fancy word that means a way for humankind to come back into a harmonious relation with God.
Hebrews 9:22 states that “almost everything is cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness [neither release from sin and its guilt, nor cancellation of the merited punishment].”
This explains how important blood was and Hebrews 9:12 declares that Jesus’ blood has obtained and secured eternal redemption, meaning that there is salvation available to all who personally believe in Him as Saviour!
Ephesians 1:7-8 confirms this, stating that redemption is now available to us, that means deliverance and salvation, because Jesus’ blood pain the penalty for our sin. We can find forgiveness and complete pardon of our sin, in accordance with the riches of Jesus’ grace which has been lavished upon us.
Why is the blood of Jesus so full of power? Because His blood brings us freedom!
Completely cleansed
1 John 1:7 explains that if we live each and every day in conformity with the precepts of God then we can have true unbroken fellowship, God will be with us and we will be with Him, because the blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin by erasing the stain of sin. It also keeps us cleansed from sin in all its forms and manifestations.
This means we can be completely cleansed from sin and continually cleansed.
How can we grasp hold of these glorious promises?
Simple, we freely admit that we have sinned, confess our sins, knowing that Jesus will forgive our sins and cleanse us continually from all unrighteousness. He will forgive all our wrongdoings and remove everything from our lives that is not in conformity with His will and purpose (see 1 John 1:9).
Let’s pray:
Almighty God I want Your Word to rule and reign in my heart. I desire to have true unbroken fellowship, for God to be with me and me with Him.
I recognise that I’ve sinned, I confess my sins to you….
I receive and acknowledge that Jesus will forgive my sins and cleanse me continually from all unrighteousness. He will forgive all my wrongdoings and remove everything from my life that is not in conformity with His will and purpose. Jesus come and cleanse ALL sin, erase the stain of sin in my life and continually cleanse me from sin in all its forms and manifestations.
I declare over my entire being that there is power, power, wonder-working power in the blood of the Lamb (Jesus). Which means that I am now free from the burden of sin; I am victorious over evil; I’m free from passion and pride; I am whiter than snow because sin-stains are lost in the blood of Jesus’ life-giving flow; I will serve Jesus my King; I will live daily for Him and sing my praises always to Him! Praise You Jesus! Hallelujah. Amen!
Many blessings, Keona

In the precious blood of the Lamb.
