Welcome to Tuesday Book Chat.
This is where we encourage book lovers to answer our bookish question of the week. As we are a faith-based group the questions refer mainly to Christian fiction or non-fiction.
Today’s question is:
Do you like Chrisitan Poetry and do you have any Recommendations?
We look forward to hearing your thoughts. Please join in the conversation by commenting on this post or on the blog post shared in our Australasian Christian Writers Facebook Group. Remember to comment today on Tuesday Book Chat to enter the giveaway.
Let’s chat!
Simple answer no. I am not a fan of poetry never have been. There are a couple of exceptions, but I don’t go out of my way to read it or borrow books with it in. I am one of the few people who struggle with Psalms. While I have a couple favourites when I tried reading through Psalms I just couldn’t do it in one go. So I don’t have recommendations. Over to you I know we have some who enjoy poetry on this blog.
Your turn.
I look forward to reading your comments here or at the FB group.

I love good Christian poetry. I think some people might be put off poetry because they have bad memories of what they had to learn in school or because some poetry can sound like the Hallmark sing-songy type. But there are some great Christian poets around. Some of my favourites are Cameron Semmens (who gave a workshop at an Omega conference in Melbourne probably about 10 years ago) and Andrew Lansdown (who also spoke at an Omega workshop day in Brisbane many years ago). Poetica Christi also put out a really good anthology every year. Claire Belberg’s latest book ‘Unravelling’ also mainly consists of poetry about supporting her parents through dementia. Lots of great material out there.
And Jenny, I appreciate that not everyone likes poetry, but Psalms is one of my favourite books of the Bible. I read a Psalm (or part of a longer Psalm) the last thing before turning off the light and getting into bed each night. A great way to finish the day.
We didn’t read as much poetry at school. I think it was the era of Helen Stiener Rice that I was turned off. But I did like Sylvia Fraser’s poetry. I forgot about her till right now. We had a couple people at church who wrote poetry and it was often recited in church I know it was inspired and many loved it but I have to say I wasn’t a fan. I think its more a me thing.
I have actually never read any Christian poetry, this sounds very interesting!
I know there are some good books out there but I don’t really read it. Hope you find something interesting
