Welcome to Tuesday Book Chat.
This is where we encourage book lovers to answer our bookish question of the week. As we are a faith-based group the questions refer mainly to Christian fiction or non-fiction.
Today’s question is:
Do your read nonfiction?
We look forward to hearing your thoughts. Please join in the conversation by commenting on this post or on the blog post shared in our Australasian Christian Writers Facebook Group. Remember to comment today on Tuesday Book Chat to enter the giveaway.
Let’s chat!
I read devotionals, with daily readings. Apart from those I read very few nonfiction Christian books. I have read a few biographies.
Your turn.
I look forward to reading your comments here or at the FB group.

My brain is drawn to story so no, I don’t read non-fiction books. I may use reference books to look something up, but that’s about it.
However, if the book contains case studies or other kinds of people-stories, I am likely to read it if it’s useful to me (eg. as research for a book I’m writing).
That said, I enjoy a good memoir. I recently read Stephanie Walters’ new memoir – “It’s Not A Sprint” – and loved it. Very well written and super interesting. I highly recommend it!
So glad you loved my memoir, Suzie! 🙂
Thanks for replying. I don’t tend to read alot of non fiction and when I do its not always Christian. (sports books etc)
I love non-fiction, especially Christian memoirs. I’ve read a lot of parenting books over the last few years too (I need all the help I can get lol). I think at the moment I’m reading about 50/50 fiction and non-fiction.
Thanks for commenting Stephanie. I know at ACW there are a lot of non fiction readers and authors. While we tend to focus more on fiction we do have Devotional writers and are happy to promote non fiction.
I love reading nonfiction! I tend to stick with Christian nonfiction where I can learn more about Jesus or self-help-type stuff.
Welcome Cindy, While the question just says non-fiction higher up I have added this sentence. As we are a faith-based group the questions refer mainly to Christian fiction or non-fiction. So glad you answered the way it was intended. We have a few more non fiction questions coming up in coming weeks.
Devotionals and other Christian books, plus a few others if they catch my eye.
One I read last year was called Tea at the Palace – all about afternoon tea recipes at the various royal palaces in the UK. I’ve also read a few books about Queen Elizabeth II recently and some art, craft and interior design books. Last year I read quite a few recipe books to find some new ideas of food when I needed to loose weight for medical reasons.
All up, in my yearly reading, it may be 3/4 fiction and 1/4 non-fiction.
I hadn’t thought of recipe books. most of my books are fiction except devotionals which I often don’t include in the yearly challenge.
If I read non fiction it’s a biography by someone that I admire or a subject that I’m interested in.
Thanks for commenting Cindi.
Hi Jenny, I’m selective in the nonfiction I read and I don’t read it often. I like memoir and I’ll usually read a specific memoir because it’s addressing a topic I’m particularly interested in. I tend to listen to podcasts rather than reading nonfiction books because I’m interested in hearing different perspectives on topics. I have read nonfiction books precisely because I heard about the book via a podcast. Sometimes I’ll read nonfiction for book research for my fiction writing.
makes sense.
