Tuesday Book Chat | 12 November 2024

Welcome to Tuesday Book Chat.

This is where we encourage book lovers to answer our bookish question of the week.

Today’s question is:

What is the perfect number of pages in a book?

We look forward to hearing your thoughts. Please join in the conversation by commenting on this post or on the blog post shared in our Australasian Christian Writers Facebook Group.

Let’s chat!

I am not sure I can answer this question as it depends on what I am reading. As I read novellas and novels and like both they are both different pages. I think for me around 250 or less but then I read books up to 300.

Your turn.

I look forward to reading your comments here or at the FB group.

  1. If I’m busy, 100 is a nice, sweet spot. 200 or less is best for an author I’m deciding if I like them. 300 is fine, but I’d better like the book. 400 is more of a stretch. I won’t touch those unless I really like the author because it just sucks so much time to read a 400 page book.
But I don’t have a magic number. It depends on the author, the book, and if I’m enjoying it or if I wanted a quick read.

    1. I fully agree. I rarely read 400. some have been around 300 but didn’t realise at the time cos I would buy most from that author. but I think LI range is my sweet spot.

  2. However many are needed to tell the story properly! I don’t mind if it is a short novella or a much longer novel as long as the story is told well.

  3. Hi Jenny, I agree with your answer. More than 400 pages, especially if it’s fiction, does require a time commitment. I have a different perspective on nonfiction. I tend to skim read biographies and memoirs, for example, so the page length isn’t an issue.

    1. It’s like asking how long is a piece of string. It depends on the size you pick up. Non fiction I agree and depends on what it is.
