Welcome to Tuesday Book Chat.

This is where we encourage book lovers to answer our bookish question of the week. As we are a faith-based group the questions refer mainly to Christian fiction or non-fiction.

Today’s question is:

Do you remember the first Christian fiction book you read as an adult?

We look forward to hearing your thoughts. Please join in the conversation by commenting on this post or on the blog post shared in our Australasian Christian Writers Facebook Group. Remember to comment today on Tuesday Book Chat to enter the giveaway.

Yes. I hadn’t read for several years lost my passion for it. At Christmas and older lady who we were friends with gave me a book as a gift. The book was When Calls The Heart by Jeanette Oke. I started the book that day and then was chatting with the lady and she had book 2 to give me for my birthday in Feb. She gave it to me early and I was able to order book 3 and 4. It started me back to reading and will always have a special place in my heart.

Your turn.

I look forward to reading your comments here or at the FB group.

  1. I never used to read much fiction at all, Christian or otherwise, until I received a Koorong catalogue in the mail once that had a big section on fiction (bigger than usual). I decided I really should try some Christian fiction, so I read all the synopses and found a Dee Henderson one that I thought sounded good–‘The Truth Seeker’. I could see that it was Book 3 in the O’Malley series, and I knew I should probably read a series from the beginning. But I really liked the sound of this one. I bought it, loved it, went back and read the rest of the O’Malley series and loved it. I discovered a whole bunch of other Christian authors who wrote romantic suspense, and I’ve been reading them ever since.

    1. Thats an interesting way to be introduced. I haven’t read Dee Henderson I think cos I didn’t resonate with the books like you did.

      1. Hi Leila – I haven’t enjoyed some of her more recent books as much, but I really loved the O’Malley series at the time. Best to start with ‘Danger in the Shadows’ and then the 6 other books in order. There’s a shorter prequel book, but it’s really just to fill in a few details and not really a stand-alone.

  2. I had never read any Christian fiction until one day I filtered ‘free Christian romance’ on Amazon and a Kimberley Rae Jordan book came up which was part of a series. I read book one, then purchased the entire series. Then I found a Hallee Bridgeman book which was also part of a series and was hooked even more on Christian fiction. I think I was in my mid thirties when I started reading Christian fiction and haven’t stopped.

    1. I know I have read Hallee Bridgeman (I won a book at one stage) I think I have read Kimberley Rae Jordan also. I am glad you found some. I know for some they never stopped reading and it followed from child hood. I had been reading a lot of teen books and I remember reading Agatha Christie but back then there wasn’t as many Christian books out.

  3. No I can’t remember, I have seizures so my memory is swiss cheese. I have browse my Goodreads profile to remember what I read last week.

    1. Oh thats not fun, I think I remember due to the impact of the book and also the lady who gave it to me. But I do get the trying to remember things Took me 3 trips to the shops to remember bandaids the other week. (cat food is the one thing I don’t forget)
