Welcome to Tuesday Book Chat.
This is where we encourage book lovers to answer our bookish question of the week.
Today’s question is:
What’s the first Christian novel you remember reading?
We look forward to hearing your thoughts. Please join in the conversation by commenting on this post or on the blog post shared in our Australasian Christian Writers Facebook Group.
Let’s chat!
For this I am talking adult as I did read many as a teen. But as an adult it was Janette Oke’s When Calls The Heart. An elderly lady gave it to me for Christmas and I hadn’t been reading for years. I started it that day and finished it than night I think or the next day. I contacted her and she was giving me the next for my birthday which I got early. It too was read fast and I ordered then next 2 in the series plus everything else I could get she had written. It was the start to reading again.
Your turn.
I look forward to reading your comments here or at the FB group.
My first taste of Christian novels was the Bodie & Brock Thoene’s Zion Chronicles. They were in the church library, the Zion Chronicles. And they were an exciting read.
We have them in our church library, but I haven’t read them.
Jeff and Jenny on the Chinchilla Ranch by Nellie Frisinger.
I started early as this was a chapter book for kids.
As far as adult books go, it was either When Calls the Heart or one of Janette Oke’s other stories – Love Comes Softly.
I think I have heard of these books. I use to get Junior Clubhouse and they had ways to earn points and I think this series was one of the options. I opted for one of the books in the Peggy series which for teens. I think one of my first chapter books was Grandma’s Attic
Hi Jenny, If we’re talking about fiction books that were specifically published into the Christian market, then Christy would be the first one I read. It was on my parents’ book shelf when I was growing up and I worked my way through their book collection. I would have read (and reread) C.S. Lewis’ Narnia series prior to reading Christy. 😊
