Welcome to Tuesday Book Chat.
This is where we encourage book lovers to answer our bookish question of the week.
Today’s question is:
Which do you prefer jilted bride or runaway bride?
We look forward to hearing your thoughts. Please join in the conversation by commenting on this post or on the blog post shared in our Australasian Christian Writers Facebook Group.
Let’s chat!
This is a tough one. I am not sure either are really my favourite, it really depends on why. It really depends on the story I think I would say runaway but then jilted can be interesting. Also why is it the runaway bride and not the jilted groom and same with runaway groom? There could be some interesting stories on both sides.
We assume there is a good reason for a bride to run away and we assume the groom is bad for a jilted bride. But what about the other side could the groom be running away because the bride has been unfaithful or done something? The groom always seems to be the bad guy but I would love one where the Groom is the one hard done by. just once I would love to see his story as the hero just to put a spin on it. I am sure there are some books like this out there and if you know any let me know.
Your turn.
I look forward to reading your comments here or at the FB group.
Normally jilted unless the runaway has a good reason for running away. I like wounded hearts better than cowardly or selfish ones. 🙂
And to answer your call for books about the groom being hard done by, I’m reading one right now! Nora’s Surprise Blessing by Aurora Kelly (an author friend of mine). Both the bride and the groom have been jilted (by different people).
I know I’ve read others where the groom was the one hard done by, but I can’t pull them from the top of my head right now.
True I agree I like wounded hearts it sounds so much better. The book you are reading sounds good. I think I am just into tropes as much as reading a blurb partly because I like to make up my own mind.
Hi Jenny, I like reading both! Like you mentioned, it all depends on why the characters ran or were jilted. As long as the main characters aren’t TSTL (too stupid to live) and their character motivations make sense, I’ll happily read the stories. 🙂
I agree. I actually think for me I don’t like tropes to be so defined. I like how I would read the blurb to decide if I want to read the book now we are told its xxx and I have preconceived ideas about some tropes that makes me miss good books due to this. Which is why I tend to still look more at the blurb than what an author says the book is.
