Tuesday Book Chat | 26 November 2024

Welcome to Tuesday Book Chat.

This is where we encourage book lovers to answer our bookish question of the week.

Today’s question is:

What book made you fall in love with reading? (Let’s clarify it to Christian Fiction)

We look forward to hearing your thoughts. Please join in the conversation by commenting on this post or on the blog post shared in our Australasian Christian Writers Facebook Group.

Let’s chat!

As an adult it was When Calls The Heart by Janette Oke. I know I have told the story before but I hadn’t read much for about 7 years. Then an older lady at church gave me this book for Christmas and I read it that night. This is the book that reignited my love for reading.

Your turn.

I look forward to reading your comments here or at the FB group.

  1. Hi Jenny, I didn’t start reading Christian fiction until the mid-1990’s when I was introduced to the Love Inspired range of inspirational romance books in a specialty romance book store in Sydney. I’ve always loved reading romance, and I discovered Christian romance authors like Francine Rivers and Dee Henderson who opened my eyes to a whole new reading world. 😊

    1. Thanks for the reply. After getting back into reading and finding Janette Okes books I then went onto what ever I could find. I found the Heartsong presents books and another range I think called Promises, Promises and then LI I loved the smaller books cos they were often cheaper. I know I went to Koorong in Melbourne and bought so many books. (before it was in Adelaide) then When in WA I went to Koorong and bought so many books they mailed them home for me (ended up with another order too which I was able to send back) This would have been around the end of the 80’s.

  2. It was my mother’s Janette Oke collection. I’d see her reading it and how much she treasured that collection which made me want to read. I loved, LOVED A Gown of Spanish Lace. Then a friend introduced me to Lori Wick, then Dee Henderson. Oh, so many happy memories. But I’d say A Gown of Spanish Lace was my first favourite in the romance genre.
I didn’t read many children’s books myself, but my mother used to read to me a lot. I can’t remember which of those was my first favourite.

    1. I remember The Gown of Spanish Lace. There were so many I liked.
I didn’t read many Chrisitan Children’s books besides the arch books and one other lot and they were bible stories. They didn’t have as many back then but as a teen it would have been the Peggy books by Dorothy Martin.

  3. I don’t know that there was any one book. I’ve always loved reading.
Even as a child we had Christian fiction for kids.

    1. makes sense. I read a lot as a child and teen then had a break for several years where I hardly picked up a book which is why I can remember
