Tuesday Book Chat | 29 July 2025

Welcome to Tuesday Book Chat.

This is where we encourage book lovers to answer our bookish question of the week. As we are a faith-based group the questions refer mainly to Christian fiction or non-fiction.

Today’s question is:

When a favourite author interacts with you do you get excited?

We look forward to hearing your thoughts. Please join in the conversation by commenting on this post or on the blog post shared in our Australasian Christian Writers Facebook Group. Remember to comment today on Tuesday Book Chat to enter the giveaway.

Let’s chat!

Yes. This came about from one of my favourite authors liking a review I put up last year. Then replying to an email I sent them. I know authors are busy and don’t expect a reply but it always feels good. When it is a bigger named author who is also a must read for me, I feel special that they took the time to like or reply. I know authors appreciate messages from readers but not sure they realise how much it can also mean to a reader.

Your turn.

I look forward to reading your comments here or at the FB group.

Comment on today’s post to enter the Tuesday Book Chat quarterly e-gift card giveaway sponsored by Narelle Atkins. Two winners per quarter, $10 US or $15 Aussie e-gift cards.

  1. It is my absolute favorite thing to hear back from an author I really like. Its even better when they become a friend! That has happened to me with my favorite author of all time. And still to this day I get excited to see her name pop up in my text messages!

    1. Melody thanks for commenting. I know what you mean we have a few authors in common who we now consider friends. I was thinking last night. The very first author I ever wrote to was Gilbert Morris by snail mail. You can imagine how excited I was when he wrote to me snail mail to Australia! We then had a few letters exchanges. I felt like he really cared and actually commented on some of the thoughts I had about the books (it was the one set in the civil war) I was saying it would be like My state fighting the neighbouring state where half my relatives lived and us being 10 mins from the border. The fact so many from across the border work and go to school with me. and he wrote back commenting on my comment.

  2. Hi Jenny, Yes! Back in 2008 (five or so years before I was published) I went to my first US writing conference—RWA in San Francisco. Debbie Macomber invited all the Aussie & NZ conference attendees to a breakfast she hosted. Somehow my friend and I ended up sitting at Debbie’s table and it was an amazing experience. Her generosity and humility made a big impression on me, and I thought I want to be like Debbie when I grow up and become a published author. 😊

    1. That would be so fun.
Meeting someone is fun. I remember meeting Paula Vince on Christmas Eve one year. I was volunteering in the bookshop when her family came in. I didn’t know who she was but then she said we had her books on the shelf. After she left I did buy one.
