Welcome to Tuesday Book Chat. This is where we encourage book lovers to answer our bookish question of the week.
Today’s question is:
Would you consider buying books directly from an author’s website?
We look forward to hearing your thoughts. Please join in the conversation by commenting on this post or on the blog post shared in our Australasian Christian Writers Facebook Group.
Let’s chat!
Probably not. I tend to use gift card balance to buy books. If I had extra money or on paypal and it was the same price then maybe I would. But probably not. I don’t like giving my Credit card over the internet to too many places. I am happy to use paypal but don’t intend getting other methods to pay.
Your turn.
I look forward to reading your comments here or at the FB group.
My first thought was “Yes, whatever supports the author best” – however, your comment about using your credit card online Jenny made me re-think.
I prefer to use Paypal too and hesitate whenever I’m asked for credit card details. So if Paypal was available on the author’s website, yes. Otherwise, hmmm… I’d hesitate and possibly decide not to.
Hi Suzie some questions we think of course but then when we think it through its not as simple is it. If I trusted the author I would be happy to do a bank transfer but with so many scams online and scammers cloning websites I like that with paypal there is protection. it wasn’t an authors site but for other goods last year I got scammed and thanks to paypal I got my money back.
I have once, and it was a good experience.
However, mostly I wait for sales and purchase a large(ish) selection at once. Then I only have to pay one lot of postage (if I haven’t made it to the free shipping amount, which I usually do); and the books are a bit cheaper with the sale.
That I can understand. the postage to Australia is a killer.
