Tuesday Book Chat | 6 August 2024

Welcome to Tuesday Book Chat.

This is where we encourage book lovers to answer our bookish question of the week.

Today’s question is:

What was your favourite Teenage read?

We look forward to hearing your thoughts. Please join in the conversation by commenting on this post or on the blog post shared in our Australasian Christian Writers Facebook Group.

Let’s chat!

This is tough if you are talking Christian fiction it would be the Peggy Series by Dorothy Martin. I read this series so many times. Non christian I read Donna Parker at Cherrydale so many times also. It was the only book I had in this series. Then for my 16th birthday mum gave me some of the Billabong books by Mary Grant Bruce.

Your turn.

I look forward to reading your comments here or at the FB group.

  1. Hi Jenny, I’ve always been a romance genre fan and I read a lot of books from a range of genres when I was a teenager. Sweet Valley High (SVH) was one of my favourites and my sweet Nanna would buy the monthly paperback new release for me from the newsagency. That was back in the day when I would always read series books in order, lol. I do remember noticing when they started using ghost writers (before I knew ghost writing was a thing) for the SVH series and the writing style was less consistent. Francine Pascal (the creator) recently passed away and I read an interesting article on her writing journey. I didn’t know about Christian fiction (or have access to CF books – other than a couple of books on my mum’s bookshelf that didn’t particularly interest me) when I was younger.

    1. I use to buy the SVH books also and there was a Harliquinn line that had 2 I think a month for teens. We had a Second hand bookshop that also sold lollies that you could buy (use to get a cream bun from the bakery for 13 cents and 7 cents of mates that this shop) I had a standing order for the SVH and these teen books they also then had some that were seniors which I was getting it was a group of friends so each book was on a different one but they got a little more than I wanted to read. The teen ones were clean. I ended up donating all the SVH and then the SV university ones to the local library often in batches but it meant they got re read donated the teen ones also. That was back when they would take donations.
