Welcome to the Australasian Christian Writers Tuesday Book Chat, where we encourage book lovers to answer our bookish question of the week.
Today’s question is:
How out of control is your to-read pile?
We look forward to hearing your thoughts. Please join in the conversation in a comment on this post or in a comment on the blog post shared in our Australasian Christian Writers Facebook Group.
Let’s chat!
When I read this question aloud to my husband, he could not stop laughing. I’m thankful he indulges my love for books. I’m pretty sure he’s not aware of exactly how long my ebook tbr list really is…
What do you think? Do you have more self control when it comes to book hoarding than I do?

Way out of control. Thankfully on the kindle you don’t see it but its big on Kindle. But on my bookcase you don’t want to know it is so huge I am giving books unread away cos I just don’t have room for.
Hi Jenny, yes, the ebook Apps are very clever at hiding the size of our tbr lists! The Cloud, OTOH, is where the truth about the size of my Kindle tbr list can’t be hidden. 🙂
I have only recently been brave enough to investigate Kindle. I already have hundreds of real books taking up space on my shelves, with the unfulfilled promise that I will go back and read each one again. I’ve only kept those I have read multiple times…
I am trying to be cautious with Kindle, as I can lose myself to a good story so easily, and at the moment I am supposed to be writing my own. I used to read everything and anything Fiction, but Kindle is too big for me, so I am sneaking in only when I have seen a book review that sounds promising. If I like a new author’s book, I add the others to my ‘want to read’ list.
So I have only 8 on my unread Kindle list, but I’m not going to confess how many are on my Goodreads ‘want to read list’ which is growing every week…
Hi Chrissy, I rarely look at Goodreads because I really don’t need to find any more books, lol. I used to reread books all the time, but now I only tend to go back and reread a book or two in a series when the newest one releases. Thanks for stopping by. 🙂
Totally out of control. I have 470 in my to-read list on Goodreads. I really should cull several hundred and only keep the ones I have vague intentions of ever actually getting to. There are also heaps I’ve downloaded onto my Kindle and haven’t read yet. Those free and cheap deals all add up. There are also various piles throughout the house. Every now and then I take some to the charity shops that I know I won’t read. They all seemed like a good idea at the time. Our library has a sale of old books every few months, so that’s also a danger zone for me.
Oh look! Booktopia is having a sale. Gotta go!
Hi Nola, yes, those free and 99c deals definitely add up to a long list! I don’t have time to even think about adding books into a tbr list at Goodreads, lol. Happy shopping at the Booktopia sale! 🙂
That depends on whether you’re talking fiction or non-fiction. I take longer to read non-fiction, so that pile is a lot bigger.
That being said, I think there are less than 100 books in my pile (not counting ones I haven’t purchased yet)! Make that under 50. I just counted and there are 47. Only 7 of those are fiction. I also haven’t counted the ones I ordered last week and are in the mail. That might take me over 50!
Hi Beth, I tend to either read non-fiction very quickly or I take forever and pick and choose chapters to read, depending on the topic. My print book collection is much more manageable because I don’t impulse buy. Well done on successfully managing your print book collection! 🙂
