Welcome to Tuesday Book Chat. This is where we encourage book lovers to answer our bookish question of the week.
Today’s question is:
Are you a fan of Facebook reader groups?
We look forward to hearing your thoughts. Please join in the conversation by commenting on this post or on the blog post shared in our Australasian Christian Writers Facebook Group.
Let’s chat!
Yes, I am on a few that are quite active. The best ones are run by a single author for their reader fans. Or by a group of authors from a blog or group. I like the ones where the author is active and we have fun. These are not buy my book groups they really care about their readers. I am not a fan of ones that put on the hard sell on readers. Also I will only join groups that are private for online safety reasons.
Your turn.
I look forward to reading your comments here or at the FB group. Remember all comments go into the monthly drawer for a gift voucher.
Not really. I’m only in one reader group, and I’m not all that interested in it. I’m not in any group specifically by an author I like. I tend to lean towards writer groups. I do get recommendations and book ideas from those writer groups. However, I like the things I can learn from the group about writing and appreciate that the recommendations are fewer. That have something to do with the fact I can’t keep up with my current reading list, so why tempt myself with more books I can’t find time to read?
I am in Sharlene McLarens group and its fun. We have games at times and its a friendly group. She only writes a book a year so its not a hard sell at all but its more a friend group. They do prayer requests and she is involved. Other author groups are inactive and I deleted a lot in the past year.
I am not a writer so they probably are more useful to me.
I’m in two that don’t belong to a single author that have a lot of posts that ask questions that get conversations going. I love taking part in those. Both have promotional posts only on the weekend or as comments on an admin’s post once a week. But even those promotional posts can get some good conversations going among members of the group. There are some individual authors who have pages or groups that I enjoy as well.
Hi Carol. I notice you on one I am also in but hadn’t thought about as a readers group but I know it is. I am in a few that are by several authors (a LI group) I am not so active there and there is another from a blog that are also LI and similar authors and also in one from Inspy Romance and most weeks I enjoy the fun. A few probably over do the promo but most we have fun questions which I love.
I did join one for readers of Australian fiction but it wasn’t private and I started getting spam messages. I know it was this group as I tried to use my second account that is in only one other private group and for the first time since having the account I got the same messages from similar people. (and my setting are private).
I had to leave the group because I have issues with a couple of people who were tracking me on FB.
