Welcome to Tuesday Book Chat. This is where we encourage book lovers to answer our bookish question of the week.
Today’s question is:
Do you like reviewing or recommending favourite books?
We look forward to hearing your thoughts. Please join in the conversation by commenting on this post or on the blog post shared in our Australasian Christian Writers Facebook Group.
Let’s chat!
Yes. If I like a book I will review it and often will write to the author to let them know how much I liked it. I now rarely will keep reading a book if I don’t like it. Favourites change also with each book I read.
Your turn.
I look forward to reading your comments here or at the FB group.
I have written to a few authors I have enjoyed. If I enjoy a book I will recommend it to others.
Thanks for commenting Heather (sorry for the delay dental appointment yesterday that wiped me out)
I have done reviews in the past, but not so much recently. I often struggle to know what to say … which is why I’m a reader, not a writer.
I do sometimes recommend books to friends and often share my books which is something I’m able to do because I only read print books. It can be difficult though with recommending books because everyone likes different things and something I may be okay with in a story may not appeal to them (or vice versa).
Thanks for commenting Beth, I understand the reviewing. recommending is just as good. and Thats true about different likes. I still remember a book I disliked and everyone put it in their top tens (You wouldn’t liked it either for the same reason I didn’t). It dealt with a about to turn 30 acting like the world was ending cos she was still single. Married people don’t get how hard it can be for singles to read books where the heroine is acting like its the end of the world to still be single at 30.
I love telling friends about books I’ve enjoyed. There are some that are much more than enjoyable reads because they deal with serious spiritual questions. I recommend those more often than I do books that don’t address deeper issues, even though I might enjoy both books equally. I need to start reviewing books more at Goodreads and BookBub where being a fellow author won’t raise any issues. I occasionally review a nonfiction book at Amazon, but not fiction.
As an author, nothing makes my day faster or better than hearing from a reader through a review or a direct personal contact (email or comment at website) that something I wrote encouraged them in their faith.
Sorry for the delay. thanks for commenting. I have reviewed a few non fiction a few times. One was on manage your pain. Sometimes it helps to see if a book is going to be good or not from reviews. (especially if it deals with a subject you need help for).
