Welcome to Tuesday Book Chat. This is where we encourage book lovers to answer our bookish question of the week.
Today’s question is:
Do you read author newsletters?
We look forward to hearing your thoughts. Please join in the conversation by commenting on this post or on the blog post shared in our Australasian Christian Writers Facebook Group.
Let’s chat!
Yes. I have recently unsubscribed from some due to not being as interested and some that over sending. A couple had were trying to sell a new book which is fine but daily and sometimes twice daily got to much. But there are others I look forward to reading.
We currently have a survey about author newsletters click here to have your say.
Your turn.
I look forward to reading your comments here or at the FB group.
And don’t forget: if you’d like to participate in our weekly Book Chat by posting the question and your answer on your blog, drop us an email via our Contact page and we’ll send you the list of questions for 2021.
Yes but sometimes if I am being bombarded by emails all around, I tend to not read them. I try to save them to read them later but most times end up forgetting and they get lost in my emails. For that reason, I have only signed up to a handful.
We are hitting on some of these questions this month. if you have time would love you to do the survey (link in my comment in post.
I read a select few…newsletters that are informative and/or fun. I am starting to unsubscribe to emails that consistently promote their books/services, sometimes on a daily basis.
I like informal emails that read like friends chatting over lunch, or providing updates on relevant topics i.e. writing. 🙂
I can understand that. I unsubbed this week from one where they were doing daily and sometimes twice a day reminding people to pre order or that they had a sale.
I subscribe to some but not many. Because I’m selective about subscribing, I do read at least part of most of them. I don’t like the ones that are only “buy my book” messages even when there isn’t a new release. I like other content (historical info, devotionals, something about what the authors are doing as they work on a book), but not coming too often. I try to include special info that will be interesting background to make it a richer experience for someone reading one of my books, and I like that in other authors’ newsletters.
I forgot to mention something in my comments in the survey. I do like book recommendations by authors I subscribe to. I have found books I like that I might not otherwise have purchased.
Hi Jenny, I’m glad you’re focusing on newsletter in the book chats, and I appreciate hearing everyone’s thoughts. For authors who are auto-buys for me for their new releases, I like hearing about their upcoming releases via their newsletter to remind me to pre-order their books. 😊
