Welcome to Tuesday Book Chat. This is where we encourage book lovers to answer our bookish question of the week.
Today’s question is:
Is there a subject or theme you’d like to see in a story?
We look forward to hearing your thoughts. Please join in the conversation by commenting on this post or on the blog post shared in our Australasian Christian Writers Facebook Group.
Let’s chat!
I would love to see books that highlight some medical issues such as Chronic Migraine, MS, or other chronic conditions. Show how although a person has a chronic condition or are impacted they still have a life. Don’t gloss over the conditions and show there are limitations but despite the issue they still have active lives. (I don’t want a sudden cure that is unrealistic).
I think focusing on issues like OCD could be interesting. We see shows like A Death in Paradise having this issue so seeing it covered in a book would be good.
The other theme would be older never married singles over 30 or even 40 who have never been in a real relationship. People stay this doesn’t happen but I can tell you it is more common than you may think.
Your turn.

It would be great to see more diversity in Christian novels, with a real attempt to understand the viewpoints of minority groups and marginalised people. Different ethnic groups come to mind, but also other marginalised groups such as those living with physical or mental disabilities, or chronic health conditions. There are books that do that of course, but I think more could be done to break down the stereotypes.
I agree with chronic health issues there is lots of info out there and also lots of people who would give an insight to make sure the character was written write (of course they often affect people differently but there are always underlining things that are common).
Just thinking of Diabetes and how it can restrict but also how a person with it can live a full life. (Thinking of Eliza Bartlett who has had it since about 10 and walked from the southern end of Italy to the top of Scotland for 5 months raising money for JD and blogged about the trip) .
