Welcome to Tuesday Book Chat. This is where we encourage book lovers to answer our bookish question of the week.
Today’s question is:
What books have you read that are set in New Zealand?
We look forward to hearing your thoughts. Please join in the conversation by commenting on this post or on the blog post shared in our Australasian Christian Writers Facebook Group.
Let’s chat!
The one I remember most would be Sister Chicks Down Under by Robin Jones Gunn. Its set mostly in NZ with a small portion in Australia. I was introduced to Chocolate fish through this book. Some of the situations in the book had me laughing so hard. The fact that Robin writes as and American visiting the country and not as if she is a native makes the books so much better. We see the differences in language and customs which makes the book so much better.
Your turn.

There are 2 older books by Mavis Areta Winder – ‘The Things Temporal’ and ‘Safer Than a Known Way’. They were published in the 1950s. I found them in Op Shops.
I have also read Sisterchicks Downunder.
There is another one that is set in both Australia and New Zealand – The Pounamu Prophecy by Cindy Williams.
I think Cindy may have a couple of books out
The one I read was several years back and was a YA to do with motorsport I bought in Australia at a children’s book fair. It was really good!
thanks for commenting. I know I read another book but cant remember the name but it was early days of the missionaries to NZ.
