Welcome to the Australasian Christian Writers Tuesday Book Chat. This is where we encourage book lovers to answer our bookish question of the week.
Today’s question is:
What’s your favourite classic Christian novel?
We look forward to hearing your thoughts. Please join in the conversation by commenting on this post or on the blog post shared in our Australasian Christian Writers Facebook Group.
Let’s chat!
This is a tough question I am not sure I have one favourite. One would be When Calls The Heart by Janette Oke. This is the book that got me back to reading. A couple of books by Gilbert Morris would also be on the list. One older book would be The Big Fisherman by Peter Marshall although I admit I did skip some of the beginning.
Your turn.

I think mine would have to be, ‘Redeeming Love’, by Francine Rivers – it’s about the only book I’ve read more than once (not sure if it’s a classic though). I do like Bodie and Brock Thoene eg A.D. Chronicles
Its hard to what is considered a classic. I think these books would be considered classics. Thanks for commenting.
It’s more than one novel but they need to be taken as a whole: The Chronicles of Narnia. 🙂
That’s true Susan. These books are classics and I loved reading and re-reading them.
Pilgrim’s Progress! Now that’s a classic.
You are right. I use to get a children’s magazine called Junior Clubhouse which was a Christian magazine for children. It had things for children to do where you could earn points and win books. I won my first Peggy book through them. They had a children’s version of Pilgrims Progress in the magazine with a chapter or two every month. We also did a Sunday School Anniversary based on Pilgrim’s Progress.
Jenny I used to get that magazine too!! One of my prizes was The Adventures of Tina and Tim.
It was something to look forward to each month and by doing the daily devotionals and then posting it back you got points. I think I wrote a letter. I also had a pen friend from Tasmania for a short time from the magazine. I think it was really good cos it encouraged a daily devotion but in a fun way. I had friends at the church who bought a yearly subscription for me. (Dad had a stroke when I was 8 and money was tight) I was really good friends with their daughter and there son was my age so I spent a lot of time with them and they did a few things like this for me. I know Focus on the Family have a magazine now but cant remember who use to do this when I was younger. Wondering if it was the Navigators.
Classics – not sure what makes it that kind.
Redeeming Love – Francine Rivers
Safely Home – Randy Alcorn
Narnia series CS Lewis
The Sensible Shoes club (4 books) by Sharon Garlough Brown will become a classic.
I am not sure what makes a book a classic. I guess its one that holds the test of time. What one person calls a classic could be different from another. I would definitely call the Narnia Series a classic. I loved that series.
I would say Christy by Catherine Marshall would also be a classic although I could never really get into the story. I struggled with the beginning with to much information and never got any further.
