Tuesday Book Chat | What’s Your View On Romances Featuring Royalty?

Welcome to Tuesday Book Chat. This is where we encourage book lovers to answer our bookish question of the week.

Today’s question is:

What’s your view on romances featuring royalty?

We look forward to hearing your thoughts. Please join in the conversation by commenting on this post or on the blog post shared in our Australasian Christian Writers Facebook Group.

Let’s chat!

I haven’t read many romances with royalty. This year I read both of Toni Shiloh’s “In Search of a Prince” and “To Win A Prince” and enjoyed them. I think because they are in Africa and not Europe. Another I enjoyed was by Darlene Franklin which goes along the lines of a Hallmark movie. I haven’t read that many but I think I prefer them to billionaires. The exception is I do not appreciate the books set in the Regency era so am very unlikely to read books with royals set in that era.

Your turn.

I look forward to reading your comments here or at the FB group. Remember all comments go into the monthly drawer for a gift voucher.

  1. I was going to say I never really read them. Royalty themed books don’t hold my interest unless it’s more medieval, but I don’t read those often either. I used to as a teenager though.
Then you reminded me of Toni Shiloh. I read and loved both of hers, but they weren’t what comes to mind when I think royalty romances. Especially the second book had more of a billarionare romance feel, and the faith element was really strong.

    1. I had the same thought although not even medieval ones. But I too loved Toni Shilohs as they were different. Ironically I don’t mind watching the Hallmark movies but then there are many movies I would watch but wouldn’t read.

  2. I’ve read a few – mostly by Rachel Hauck – and I don’t mind them, but honestly, it’s kind of been done and unrealistic that they all marry commoners from the USA. Marrying commoners is not so strange given recent actual royal marriages, but all from the same place, not so realistic.
I’ve also watched quite a few of the Hallmark movies, but there isn’t much variation in plot, so once you’ve seen a couple, they just become repetitive.

    1. Thats so true Our own Princess Mary married into the Danish royal family and Princess Charlene is South African and many others are from Europe.
In real life there have been a few Americans many marrying into middle east royal families.
And you are so true about the movies I did see one a bit differently recently but most are the same. (this one actually knew she was working for the king who was a widow and she was to be the governess)
