Long black or flat white?

Cappuccino girl here!

Kiwis or koalas?

Koalas.

Mangoes or kiwifruit?

Mangoes.

Cricket or rugby?

Southern Stars (the Australian Women’s Cricket team, and current world champs).

Hobbits or Mad Max?

Neither really, but if I had to go one it would probably be Max.

Books or TV?

Can’t choose. Love both.

Sun or snow?

Sun. I HATE the snow.

Desert or sea?

Sea.

Plotter or pantser?

Plotter in the mind, then anything could happen in the writing.

Getting to Know Rose Dee

What’s something interesting or unusual about you that not everyone knows?

I have a truck licence. Love the heavy vehicles, although I don’t do much driving in them these days.

Where are you from?

Mackay, North Queensland, Australia.

What is your town or city most famous (or infamous) for?

Traditionally a sugar cane region, it’s also known these days as a service centre for the coal mining industry. And it’s on the Great Barrier Reef – so there are also some great tropical drawcards in the region.

What books are set in your town/city?

All of my books are set in my region. Sun, sea, islands, coastal communities, larrikin characters – it’s all there.

What do you write?

Redemptive Fiction. Stories of faith that are not exactly ‘edgy’ but more about characters that come through a range of life’s challenges through faith in Jesus.

Who or what are your main writing influences?

My biggest influence in setting would be the region in which I live. When it comes to storyline and characters I prefer to write about flawed characters who, like all of us, are quite capable of making big mistakes and having their lives turned upside down by bad decisions.

Do you have any books published?

Yes. 5 books. My 3 book ‘Resolution’ series; Stand alone novel, Ehvah After; and conjunction novel, The Greenfield Legacy. I also have a novella linked to the Resolution stories.

How long have you been writing?

About 7 years.

What inspired you to start writing?

I wanted to do something for the Lord. That was my dream, and I know it is a dream that has been realised.

What’s your favourite part of the writing process?

I love it when I am writing and all of a sudden the storyline or characters take an unexpected turn, or I find myself typing out a scene that I never expected or planned. That is when I know these characters are alive and have a personality of their own.

What’s your biggest writing challenge?

Writing something now. I’m in a season of difficulty in my writing – looking for that next project.

How does your faith impact your writing?

Faith is the very root of my writing. I didn’t set out to be a writer, or to write a book, or to have a published novel, or to have a best seller. None of those things were important to me. My dream was to do something for the Lord, so faith is at the very conception of my writing journey.

Finally, where’s the best place to find you online?

The best places are Facebook and my Website.

  1. Praying for divine inspiration and the words to flow. Thanks for sharing with us. Blessings xx

    1. Hi Keona,

Thank you for your encouragement, and prayers. I receive both humbly and with great thankfulness.
Encouragement and prayer mean so much to an author, especially Christian Authors. Thank you so much. xoxoxo

  2. My second attempt! Such an interesting gal! Loved hearing all those details Rose. I’m stuck in the same way as you at present. Waiting & praying for inspiration. We’ll pray together. 🙂

    1. It’s a nice thing to know I’m not alone, Rita. I think it’s just the season of waiting, which is sometimes much harder than the season of work. But just as rewarding.
Yes – let us wait together – and pray together for that next step. xoxo

  3. I tried to post yesterday but my computer shut down on me (does it a lot lately)
I too love the Southern Stars. I loved watching the WBBL Some of the commentary by the players was really entertaining especially Gracie Harris from the Brisbane Heat.

Wow driving a truck would be interesting. I cant even drive a car.

    1. Wasn’t the performance of the Stars superb last season! Terry and I would get all our work done early so we could sit and watch the world cup games. To see them have a win was so uplifting. I feel like it was how cricket used to be – before all the mistakes and controversies. I’m pleased to find another fan. 🙂

Up until recently, we had a 4×4 truck -I would drive it out to our bush camp. We decided to sell it because as much as I loved it, we really didn’t need it. I now have the opposite – a little Suzuki 4×4. But sometimes I do miss being up so high.

  4. Rose, great interview! It would be handy where you live to have a truck licence. I’m praying the story inspiration will happen for you in His timing. The waiting can be tiresome. 🙂

    1. Hi Narelle,

I missed seeing your comment here before now. 🙁 My truck license has come in handy – especially when we had the big 4×4. And with the mine, I am expecting it to come in handy again in the future.

I think one of the problems with my writing is TOO much inspiration. I have so many ideas and I don’t know which is the right one. I’ve held off exploring most of them because I’ve never really felt that there is a future to any of them. And when I say ‘future’ I don’t mean in a commercial sense – I think most of them would be commercially sane, but rather I mean ‘the right direction for me.’ I guess I’m waiting for that confirmation in the next project. His timing is perfect. 🙂

    1. Hi Rick,

Thank you for stopping by, and taking the time to read and leave a comment.
I am very grateful for prayers. I’m in a season of waiting for the next ‘big thing’ the Lord wants me to do. In the meantime, He has me busy doing one of the biggest ‘things’ I will ever do in my life – being an attentive parent to my 13-year-old. What a job that has been! And will continue to be. A job that is so very wonderful and challenging at the same time. 😉
