Freedom In His Loving Kindness
“May your unfailing love come to me, Lord, your salvation, according to your promise; Psalm” 119:41 (NIV)
We spend some much of life trying to figure things out. Where to go, where to live, which job to take, and how to make the right decision. All these things are important. But sometimes, we get so consumed on finding answers that we forget to seek the One who has all the answers.
In Psalm 119:41-48, the Psalmist something takes many of us years to comprehend; God’s Word brings life, freedom, and hope.
Finding True Freedom in God’s Word
Freedom is often associated with being free to do whatever we want, when we want. But the Psalmist shows us a different view. In verse 45, he declares, “I will walk about in freedom, for I have sought out your precepts.”
The Psalmist understood that true freedom isn’t found in living without boundaries; it’s found in willingly walking in God’s ways.
God’s Word and instructions aren’t there to restrict us or rob us of joy. They’re given to us by a loving Father who knows us intimately, understands what we need and sees what can’t. His Word protects us, guides us and leads us towards the life he created us for.
When we allow God’s Word to shape our mind and hearts, we begin to experience a freedom that the world can’t match or offer. A freedom that is only found in Jesus.
Obedience Begins With God’s Love
The Psalmist knew that God’s love was the source from which all things flow. Peace, joy, hope and obedience.
He knew that having God’s Word rooted in his heart and constantly on his lips, he would be able to walk in freedom. He would have the boldness and courage to declare the goodness of God before kings and critics alike.
God’s love is the foundation, and obedience is our response.
Obedience to God doesn’t earn us His love. When we truly understand the depth of God’s loves for us, obedience becomes easier. Abiding in His love compels us to be more obedient. It becomes less about rules and more about trust, even in the most confusing of situations.
Walking in His Loving Kindness
It won’t always be easy, but when we trust God and trust in His love, we realise that we are not alone. Can I encourage you to spend some time in God’s Word this week, not to look for answers, but to seek His heart. Allow Holy Spirit to tenderly speak to you and reveal the areas where you may be holding back from fully trusting God. And be reminded that His ways are higher than ours, his love is unfailing, and His Word is a light for our path and our hearts.
Reflection
How can you sit and seek God’s heart this week?
