For Fiction Friday I am reviewing Blueprint for Love by Penny Zeller which released about a week ago.
Book description:
He’s a grumpy contractor.
She’s a bubbly interior designer.
Will an unexpected alliance be the blueprint for love?
Eager to prove herself to her demanding boss, Jeanette Wertz travels to Cloverdale Falls with the hopes that helping renovate the local B&B will boost her interior design career. She never imagined the grumpy man she unexpectedly meets on the first day, when her car breaks down on Main Street, is the same man she’ll be working with on the renovations. When her every suggestion meets resistance, Jeanette fears she’ll never accomplish her assignment in time to meet the deadline. An assignment that could cost her the job of her dreams.
Cameron Krausman enjoys running the family business, but what he doesn’t enjoy is going toe-to-toe with a pretty but opinionated interior designer who has an alternative suggestion for every one of his recommendations. Not only must Cameron help his dad recover from a near-fatal health event, but he must now also contend with Jeanette Wertz and her countless ideas.
When differences morph into friendly bets—most of which Cameron loses—things begin to slowly change between the two rivals. Can a series of competitions and an old building in desperate need of an update be enough to turn rivalry into romance?
My Review:
This is the 3rd book in the Small Town Shenanigans series and it doesn’t disappoint. This time we have Jeanette Wertz an interior designer as the heroine. She is Braxton’s brother and here to help with the remodelling of the attic at the bed and breakfast. She has to work with Cameron Krausman who work for his home is running his family construction company.
Right from the start Jeanette and Cameron clash. Jeanette suggests they settle the ideas in a series of bets, The type where the one who wins chooses something the other one will do. Who decides is the owners of the Bed and Breakfast and one other place they are working on. This leads to some fun encounters.
We also have Maeve, Beulah and Nyla back as the CFI Cloverdale Falls Investigators. This leads to more capers that both Jeanette and Cameron get dragged into. I love these ladies and their antics. As the book progress rivalry turns to more. Seeing them growing closer was fun.
The book also deals with some serious issues. Cameron’s dad is recovering from a near fatal heart attack and is struggling. He has gone from being an active part of the family company to basically sitting in front of the tv. We see how caring for someone can be difficult and draining. When a family member suffers a life altering crisis it affects the whole family. Many don’t understand how difficult it can be and the author has captured it well. Having seen mum become a carer for my father after is stroke I could identify with Cameron and his mother as I also became a carer for my mother. I am glad the author didn’t sugar coat how difficult it can be and the feelings of Cameron and his mother.
I also need to mention Francesca, Jeanette’s Dachshund who is her own character. She featured in the book and tended to try to steal scenes.
If you are looking for a fun read with reals issues, I am sure you will enjoy this book. While its book 3 you can read it as a standalone but reading the others in the series will enhance your reading of this book. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
