Friday Fiction | Book Review of Love In The Headlines by Penny Zeller

Today I am reviewing Love in the Headlines by Penny Zeller

Book Description:

Can paper and paw prints draw these two nemeses together?

All Carleigh Adams wants is a relaxing evening. But Sullivan Theodore IV, her wayward shih tzu, has other plans. After escaping from home, Sullivan Theodore unlawfully enters what Carleigh assumes is a stranger’s house via a doggy door. Much to Carleigh’s horror, it is actually the home of her coworker and nemesis, Trey “The Irritating” Montgomery.

Trey Montgomery has competed with “Quirky Carleigh,” his top competitor, for the best articles at The Oakville Daily for the past two years. It’s safe to say that she and her criminally-minded pet are his adversaries. Trey’s attempts to keep his distance from her are demolished when their boss thrusts them together as The Oakville Daily Duo, forcing them to work as a team on every. Single. Article.

Petty crimes and crazy shenanigans in Oakville soon draw Carleigh and Trey into doubling as detectives. When dogs, including their own pets, begin to mysteriously disappear, Carleigh and Trey join forces to uncover the culprit. As they work to report the daily news and solve the crimes in Oakville, can these two stubborn reporters find love in the headlines?

Faith, plentiful humor, and tender romance round out the latest Christian contemporary romance novel by Author Penny Zeller.

My Review:

This is the latest book by Penny Zeller and another great read.

This book we see Carleigh and Trey story. They are reporters who compete for the best stories and have a rivalry. The book starts with Carleigh’s shih tzu Sullivan Theodore IV escaping and ending in a very humorous situation. It is here where we meet Trey and his German Shepherd Jaxx. These two dogs create a lot of fun situations in the book and in many ways they are the stars of the book. Sullivan Theodore IV isn’t the well behaved pet Carleigh likes to pretend he is where as Jaxx is much better behaved. But put them together they get their owners into so many interesting situations.

Carleigh and Trey are put together to work on stories for the local paper much to their dismay and this is where things get interesting. They live in a small town where everyone seems to know everyone and very little crime. There are a few mysteries that come up which they are investigating as reporters.

There are so many quirky characters in this book and a cast of dogs who we get to meet. I was reading part of this book at a medical appointment and kept laughing and had to tell the people near me it was the book and would tell them what was happening. There were times if you have had a pet you know what is going to happen as two dogs together can create havoc.

The interaction between Trey and Carleigh is interesting too. They go from rivals to partners working together but still rivals to more. Being this is a Romance I don’t think I am giving anything away seeing as they are the main characters. The road to romance is a fun one.

There is a birthday party in this story where both Jaxx and Sullivan Theodore IV are invited which is hilarious. You will have to read this book to find out more. This book is one of my best reads for the year and definitely the funniest.

If you are looking for a light, fun book with a couple of dogs that will keep you entertained then this is the book for you.

Do you like books where pets feature?

  1. Hi Jenny, Thanks for sharing your lovely review. I absolutely loved reading this book and I couldn’t put it down! That scene at the birthday party was a standout and one of many LOL hilarious moments in the story. This book has the all story elements I love from contemporary romance romcoms (enemies to love trope) and cozy mysteries with pets plus a subtle faith thread in the story. 😊
