Tuesday Book Chat | 12 March 2024

Welcome to Tuesday Book Chat. This is where we encourage book lovers to answer our bookish question of the week.

Today’s question is:

What’s the best Christian nonfiction book you have ever read?

We look forward to hearing your thoughts. Please join in the conversation by commenting on this post or on the blog post shared in our Australasian Christian Writers Facebook Group.

Let’s chat!

I guess this is besides the bible and again I have no idea. Several years back I read Once Blind: The Life of John Newton By Kay Marshall Strom. Personally I am one who doesn’t like the song Amazing Grace because the first time I heard it sung its was as a pop song. I didn’t even know it was a Christian hymn till we got a new minister who loved the hymn. I do like the newer version with some of the original verses.

But after reading this book and the story of John Newton. How he became a sailor and then became a slave himself in Africa to his conversion and fight against slavery. It gave a new appreciation of the hymn. I know the part of his story where he was converted and opposed slavery. Reading this book was eye opening.

Your turn.

I look forward to reading your comments here or at the FB group.

  1. Hi Jenny, The Bible is the obvious answer, lol. Although many would dispute the book category — nonfiction or fiction— depending on their personal beliefs. I tend to read nonfiction when I’m looking for an answer to a specific question, which means it’s hard to define a ‘best’ book.

One book that stands out in my memory as an inspiring and encouraging read is Soul Friend by Jo-Anne Berthelsen. It’s a beautiful memoir that Jo-Anne wrote about her journey with her dear friend and spiritual mentor. By memory, her mentor’s name was Joy and she lived up to her name. Years ago I posted a book recommendation on my blog and Soul Friend is a book I would definitely reread. 😊
