Tuesday Book Chat | 12 May 2026

Welcome to Tuesday Book Chat.

This is where we encourage book lovers to answer our bookish question of the week. As we are a faith-based group the questions refer mainly to Christian fiction or non-fiction.

Today’s question is:

Do you keep your TBR realistic, or is it a mountain you’ll never climb?

We look forward to hearing your thoughts. Please join in the conversation by commenting on this post or on the blog post shared in our Australasian Christian Writers Facebook Group. Remember to comment today on Tuesday Book Chat to enter the giveaway.

Let’s chat!

I have a list of books I need to read which is doable. My TBR pile on the other hand is out of control as in maybe close on 1,000 unread books. The kindle has a lot and I have books in the book case. WAY too many. I have actually given a lot of the ones in the book case away.

Your turn.

I look forward to reading your comments here or at the FB group.

Comment on today’s post to enter the Tuesday Book Chat quarterly e-gift card giveaway sponsored by Narelle Atkins. Two winners per quarter, $10 US or $15 Aussie e-gift cards.

The winners can choose between an Amazon.com or Kobo USD $10 gift card, or an AUD $15 gift card from Amazon AustraliaiBooksKobo.

  1. My physical TBR pile is manageable. My eBook pile is nearing 300, so unlikely… 😂

    1. Im behind was away having a medical procedure yesterday and got home exhausted. My physical one is out of control to the point I got rid of hundreds of unread books before moving here.

  2. I always have 15 books (the limit) on hold at my library. As soon as I pick up one, I put another on hold.
I have a list of TBRs in a Google file that I keep adding to. It goes up down up down up up up… down…
    I think it’s manageable.
    Just…
    🤣

      1. I don’t read them all.
If I can’t get into a book a take it back and read the next one. Life’s too short…

  3. I regularly run out or almost run out of books on my fiction TBR pile and have to go back to my shelves and re-read old favourites.
Books tend to sit for a lot longer on my non-fiction TBR pile and there are some I gave up on – not because I wouldn’t get to them eventually, but because I was no longer interested in reading them.

    1. My problem started even before my head pain but it was better back then. I use to read around 3 books a week sometimes more and then went to reading a couple years 5 and now I aim for 4 a month. Did I stop buying books when the pain started 13 years ago NO. (also the year prior It slowed down with a major health issue and then mum passed away). I would go to the city and easily come home with 20 books or more from Koorong. One year they had Heartsong presents books 10 books for way under $10 and bought 2 bundles. when the LI books were going out for a $1 I would buy up. didn’t matter I had heaps unread at home. I don’t add nearly as many to the list now. My actual books I have to read is under control.

  4. My physical books could be realistic but the ebook ones are definitely not realistic at all.

    1. My Ebooks is out of control. I know rarely look at the author promos where you can stuff your kindle because I know I most likely won’t get around to reading them and often they are mixed promos of both Christian fiction and clean without any indication which is which.

  5. I’ll never get through my TBR lists, I have too many. I guess if I cancel my Kindle Unlimited subscription I might catch up on some of them, lol.

    1. I fully understand. some book I have on my kindle I will never read as I am not interested in the books now.

  6. I do have a TBR list, but I do try to keep it under control. Some I did think about at one time I have deleted whilst I have added others. It would be great to have more time to just sit and read. However. I also like to crochet and sometimes knit!

    1. I love to knit.
I haven’t yet figured out how to knit and read at the same time 🤣
Apparently my grandmother used to read, knit and listen to the radio all at once. Mum said she would stick a peg on her page to hold it open while she read and knitted.
