Tuesday Book Chat | 13 October 2026

Welcome to Tuesday Book Chat where we discuss bookish questions.

Each week we ask a bookish question to spark conversation among readers, with a focus on Christian fiction and nonfiction.

Today’s question is:

Do you like your chapters short and punchy or long and immersive?

We look forward to hearing your thoughts. Please join in the conversation by commenting on this post or on the blog post shared in our Australasian Christian Writers Facebook Group. Remember to comment today on Tuesday Book Chat to enter the giveaway.

Let’s chat!

Wow interesting question. It really depends on the book. I use to stop at the end of a chapter so liked them shorter. Now I can stop anywhere so I don’t really have a preference although I don’t like really long chapters.

Your turn.

I look forward to reading your comments here or at the FB group.

  1. It definitely depends on the book. Short punchy chapters suit some books. Done well, they can keep me page-turning until late at night.
If I’m immersed in a book, though, I don’t tend to notice the length of the chapters.

I just read one which had quite long chapters to begin with and they were super interesting. Later in the book as the tension rose, the chapters remained the same length but the scenes were shorter and punchier. It was a long book but I was disappointed it had to end. I could have kept reading 😁
