Tuesday Book Chat | 5 May 2026

Welcome to Tuesday Book Chat.

This is where we encourage book lovers to answer our bookish question of the week. As we are a faith-based group the questions refer mainly to Christian fiction or non-fiction.

Today’s question is:

Which character would you want as your mentor?

We look forward to hearing your thoughts. Please join in the conversation by commenting on this post or on the blog post shared in our Australasian Christian Writers Facebook Group. Remember to comment today on Tuesday Book Chat to enter the giveaway.

Let’s chat!

The first person who comes to mind is Mrs Hargrove from the Dry Creek Books by Janet Tronstad. She is the wise widow who ends up remarrying in later books. Was the Sunday School teacher and a prayer warrior. But most of all is she listens she doesn’t tell you what to do. She listens and offers to pray rather than telling you what you should do. She gives advise in a general way without preaching or judging and is someone I would love to know.

Your turn.

I look forward to reading your comments here or at the FB group.

Comment on today’s post to enter the Tuesday Book Chat quarterly e-gift card giveaway sponsored by Narelle Atkins. Two winners per quarter, $10 US or $15 Aussie e-gift cards.

  1. I have no idea, but I find the concept intriguing! Thanks for sharing yours. Mrs Hargrove does sound like a wonderful mentor.

    1. Sorry for the delay in responding been a tiring time. Mrs Hargrove is that motherly figure but a real prayer warrior and listener. She doesn’t but in but lets the characters talk and will offer bible gems but doesn’t preach. and gently ask the questions instead of just saying you should do this. There are other books who have these characters especially in series they may not even have a big part but they are there at just the right time.

  2. I would choose Sherlock Holmes because he’s so smart and able to solve the most intricate mysteries. I have read a lot of the books, watched movies and series because the character is so fascinating.
