Welcome to Tuesday Book Chat.
This is where we encourage book lovers to answer our bookish question of the week. As we are a faith-based group the questions refer mainly to Christian fiction or non-fiction.
Today’s question is:
Would you prefer a character name after you or choose a character’s name?
We look forward to hearing your thoughts. Please join in the conversation by commenting on this post or on the blog post shared in our Australasian Christian Writers Facebook Group. Remember to comment today on Tuesday Book Chat to enter the giveaway.
Let’s chat!
Personally, I would rather get to choose a name. I have read a book with my whole name (Jenny Blake) and it pulls me out of the book. She was a side character so not in it a lot but enough that I don’t want to be a main character. Choosing a name is always fun. I have done it a few times and it’s always fun seeing the name I choose in the book.
Your turn.
I look forward to reading your comments here or at the FB group.

I would love to see my name in a book. Not entirely sure why, maybe to leave a mark in history. 😀
I can understand that. I think seeing my name was interesting (its not an uncommon name) it was in a historical and only a side character. One interesting time was seeing the name Thelma Blake as the wife of a murder victim and while not main character she was in that book and a couple more in the series. Thelma Blake was the name of Dad’s sister who died at about 14 or 16 from diphtheria and then my sister who I never met would have been Thelma Joy Blake (known as Joy) so it was a little jolt but reading how feisty this lady was it felt like they both got a life in fiction.
I have read books with characters named ‘Beth’, but usually that is short for Elizabeth or Bethany. It would be strange if it was my full name, but I don’t mind if it is just the first name.
It could be fun to choose a character’s name. I’ve never done that for an author before.
Some authors have contests where you can suggest a name for a character. There are others that give the opportunity be a character in a book. Like you I don’t mine Jenny or seeing Blake just don’t want both together.
