Tuesday Book Chat | 23 January 2024

Welcome to Tuesday Book Chat. This is where we encourage book lovers to answer our bookish question of the week.

Today’s question is:

Have you ever completed a “read the bible in the year” challenge?

We look forward to hearing your thoughts. Please join in the conversation by commenting on this post or on the blog post shared in our Australasian Christian Writers Facebook Group.

Let’s chat!

I tried one year but got bogged down. It wasn’t from Genesis to Revelations but different sections. I remember one day was Genesis, 1 Samuel, Psalms, Prophets (we may have started with Isaiah and (I think we also was doing Job) Then 2 days in New Testament starting with Matthew and I think Romans. I got bogged down in Isaiah and the psalms. I didn’t finish.

Your turn.

I look forward to reading your comments here or at the FB group.

  1. I did as a teenager a few times but not in a long time. I tend to read one chapter at a time.

    1. I have done a few devotionals on several books where we took it a few verses a day and I got a lot of it. I find the large sections I wasn’t taking as much in.

  2. I have a few times, but not in recent years.
There were a few times I read through cover to cover, but the most interesting one was when I read through chronologically. Reading that way, you would read a passage, like in 1 Samuel and then read the Psalm that went with that event. It made some of the Psalms make more sense when you also knew the context in which they had been written.

    1. that does make sense. I struggle with Psalms as I am not a fan of poetry and some would make me struggle to read them.

  3. Greetings in Jesus’ Name all Aussie Christian Writers. I have completed ‘Through the Bible in a Year” – Every Day with Jesus and have been richly blessed by it. Even if I miss a few days I can easily catch up. This year I am doing the EDWJ – chronologically through the Bible and also the You Version through the Bible in the Year. No matter how many times I read the Bible right through there is so much wisdom and insights, I think it is because I’m at a different place each time myself that the Holy Spirit reveals new insights. It is never a chore but always a delight… I guess it takes a while to make it a habit – but I love it so much it is not a burden! It is so much better to read the context rather than snippets here and there. There is always so much to learn. After all the Bible is the only book in which the author is always present when you are reading! Blessed New Year everyone!

    1. Thanks for stopping by and commenting. I hope you have a Blessed new year also.

  4. Hi Jenny, In previous years I’ve always failed to read within 12 months and keep up with the reading load. This year I’m listening to The One Year Chronological Bible in the YouVersion App and the Daily Bible Podcast with Tricia Goyer and her friend, Michelle. The audio combo is working well for me and so far I’m keeping up. 😊
