Tuesday Book Chat | What’s the strangest destination you’ve ever travelled to in a book?

Welcome to the Australasian Christian Writers Tuesday Book Chat, where we encourage book lovers to answer our bookish question of the week.

Today’s question is:

What’s the strangest destination you’ve ever travelled to in a book?

We look forward to hearing your thoughts. Please join in the conversation in a comment on this post or in a comment on the blog post shared in our Australasian Christian Writers Facebook Group.

Let’s chat!

When I first read this question, I thought hmm… this is going to be a tough question for fantasy/sci-fi readers!

One book that stands out in my mind is Tosca Lee’s speculative fiction book Havah: The Story of Eve. This book is set in the Garden of Eden, which is one of the strangest settings I’ve travelled to in a book. It’s a great read, and you can check out my book recommendation at my blog here.

What do you think? What’s the strangest destination you’ve ever travelled to in a book?

And don’t forget: if you’d like to participate in our weekly Book Chat by posting the question and your answer on your blog, drop us an email via our Contact page and we’ll send you the list of questions for 2019.

  1. I immediately thought of the tree in “The Magic Faraway Tree”, when I read that I remember being so in awe of the creativity especially Mr Moonface’s house in the enormous tree because it has a slide in the middle of his house which lets you slide down to the bottom of the Faraway Tree.
Every kids dream of having a HUGE slide in their house, am I right?

  2. I have traveled to caves and different far away lands in the times of the cavemen, when I read the series of The Clan of the Cavebear.

  3. My immediate thought was Narnia. I tried to get through my wardrobe to this land.
Another was Broken Angel forget the author but it was set in the future where electrical items are no longer used. There is lack of food etc. There are also people who have mutated and are hunted down. The main character had a hump on her back that they try to hide. (She is actually an angel). This was different and I have to say there is a scene early in the book where the main characters are being chased by large dogs. Dobermans trained to not only hunt but attack and kill. I mention this because a day or so after reading this part I had to walk home from the service station and the house behind where I was had new owners with dobermans and they were barking and rushing the fence. To say I was terrified and scared is an understatement. I instantly was back in that scene in the book.

    1. Hi Jenny, Yes, when I was a child I’d also hide in my wardrobe and wish I could visit Narnia, lol. I totally understand why you were terrified of the Doberman’s after reading that book! 🙂

  4. Hi everyone, My apologies for not getting back to this post and replying to your comments sooner. Typically we try to reply to all of your individual comments within 24-48 hours.

The day this post went live, my mother was admitted to hospital. Since that time I’ve had both of my parents in hospitals on different sides of the city. I’ve also been on personal leave from my day job because I’ve been too busy caring for my parents to work. My father will be discharged in the next few weeks. My mother has an ongoing health issue and will be in hospital longer.
