Welcome to Tuesday Book Chat.
This is where we encourage book lovers to answer our bookish question of the week. As we are a faith-based group the questions refer mainly to Christian fiction or non-fiction.
Today’s question is:
Do you have a favourite genre or do you chop and change?
We look forward to hearing your thoughts. Please join in the conversation by commenting on this post or on the blog post shared in our Australasian Christian Writers Facebook Group. Remember to comment today on Tuesday Book Chat to enter the giveaway.
Let’s chat!
I definitely chop and change. At one time Historical Fiction was my favourite. Now I am leaning towards Romantic Suspense. If you look at what I have read this year more is Romantic Suspense, but I have several genres. I am not sure I actually have a favourite right now.
Your turn.
I look forward to reading your comments here or at the FB group.

Good question Jenny.
My go-to is literary fiction which is obviously very broad. I order a lot through the library to try and don’t enjoy all of them, but I’ve found many gems which have become my favourites.
I don’t read romance as a genre but I enjoy it being in the background as a support for the main story.
I love mystery, crime fiction and contemporary poetry. I also enjoy some science fiction (which used to be my go-to).
So… yes, I do chop and change a bit. 😁
I think most of us do but I do know a few people who only read contemporary romance. I have just finished a dual-line story and next is either a Historical Fantasy or Womens fiction (got 2 of them one historical and one contemporary.) My vote is the shortest.
It varies for me. I do like alternating between romance and suspense. I also add a bit of historical fiction into the mix, but my preference is after 1900, but before World War 2.
Multiple time periods are also interesting – kind of like the best of both worlds.
I used to read a lot more historical fiction, but was getting really frustrated by characters bemoaning the fact that they were still single at 19 or 20. It got to the point that I nearly threw a book across the room because of how much it was mentioned (I’m in my 40s and still single).
I have even tried a little bit of fantasy and science fiction – though I’m really not a fan of fantasy, but as a school librarian, students were asking for recommendations, so I thought I should at least try some.
I can appreciate the bemoaning being single I had that too. I have a fantasy to read this month. It seems to be a genre growing in popularity.
Anything with suspense and time travel are equally my favorite genres but I read across many different genres to mix things up so I don’t get burned out on just one.
Thats part of why I mix it up. Sometimes you need something different
