Tuesday Book Chat | Do You Like romance Novels Featuring Older couples (Over 40)

Welcome to Tuesday Book Chat. This is where we encourage book lovers to answer our bookish question of the week.

Today’s question is:

Do you like romance novels featuring older couples (over 40)?

We look forward to hearing your thoughts. Please join in the conversation by commenting on this post or on the blog post shared in our Australasian Christian Writers Facebook Group.

Let’s chat!

Yes they give hope to older singles. Many books make it sound bad if you are not married by 30 and often the heroine feels her life is over. This is common in church circles and really needs to be addressed. Having books like Kaye Darcus’s which have older single never married gives hope. Also there are many who have lost a husband or wife due to different reasons and their story deserves to be heard. Romance isn’t only for the under 30’s.

  1. Now I’m in my early 40s, I especially love reading romance between more mature individuals. The issues faced in one’s 40s, 50s and beyond are different to those of younger people. There’s also the maturity factor: with age (usually) comes maturity, so there’s less chance of frustrating, immature protagonists! 😉 Mind you, people in their 40s can still do silly things, heh!

    1. Sorry for the late reply. I do too and you are right its different when you are more mature. There are still lots of people at this age who are single never married and never really had a real relationship. Not just widowed, divorced etc.
I find christians often tend to treat older singles differently just like if you don’t have children in the first couple of years of getting married. The question is are you pregnant yet. With Singles it can be when are you getting married or in my case I was asked What is wrong with you. your standards are to high. I thought after it was the same as saying your morals are to high and thought I would rather have high morals than accept the first drunk or overseas cricket fan from Asia that asks me to marry them. (on not had a drunk but have had a few Asian Cricket fans wanting to marry me just to get into the country and all but one was sight unseen, No thanks).

  2. Hi Jenny, I love reading fiction with mature characters. Chapel Cove Romance series (I’m currently writing a book in the series) comes to mind, as well as Liwen Y. Ho’s Fab Forties rom com series. I’ve enjoyed many books from Autumn Macarthur with couples over 40. 😊
