Welcome to Tuesday Book Chat where we discuss bookish questions.
Each week we ask a bookish question to spark conversation among readers, with a focus on Christian fiction and nonfiction.
Today’s question is:
Do you organise your books by colour, genre, or chaotic vibes?
We look forward to hearing your thoughts. Please join in the conversation by commenting on this post or on the blog post shared in our Australasian Christian Writers Facebook Group. Remember to comment today on Tuesday Book Chat to enter the giveaway.
Let’s chat!
I try to arrange by genre normally in series, but some is chaotic vibes. The church library is alphabetical order but not at home. Some authors write several genres so alphabetical doesn’t work at home. The chaotic vibes happen when I know someone is coming and I need to just get books on the shelf.
Your turn.
I look forward to reading your comments here or at the FB group.

I like to think I shelve my books according to genre. In reality, my system is as chaotic as my mind, and books are clustered according to my last ‘rabbithole’ or area of study.
I have to admit mine is a bit like that at present.
Thanks for commenting
By genre, then by series, then order within series. I can’t imagine doing it any other way. My brain would implode and cause a massive singularity.
I do do some of my bookcase that way. but then I had one series take up too much room. but I am not in alphabetical order. At the church we couldn’t do genres so its in Alphabetical order and then series is in order.
I’m part author, part series, part style (the Love Inspired ones go together), but otherwise it’s wherever they fit! 🙂
I agree with that too. My Love inspired were in genre order but not in alphabetical cos the overs were different. Heartsong present were all over the place in the one section although I try to keep author books together.
My bookshelves are mostly ordered alphabetically by author, but I also have what I call the light side and the dark side! The light side are mostly romances; the dark side is mystery and suspense. And the colours of the books really match that light/dark – romances tend to be pastel and secondary colours, while suspense is more darker tones and primary colours.
Then there are the books that don’t fit on the shelves – they are in boxes (I’ve lost count how many!!) beside the bookshelves. Some of them are organised in the same way as the shelves, while others are very mixed because I haven’t organised them yet.
You are way more orgianised than me but it makes sense too.
I’m not too organized. I try to keep series together, authors together, and love inspired and love inspired suspense together.
Thats what I am like. Sometimes its better than other times.
I can only do mine by author, my brain only works in ABC order straight across in organizing skills, lol.
I can understand that.
