Tuesday Book Chat | Do You Write to Authors if You Love A Book?

Welcome to Tuesday Book Chat. This is where we encourage book lovers to answer our bookish question of the week.

Today’s question is:

Do you write to authors if you love a book?

We look forward to hearing your thoughts. Please join in the conversation by commenting on this post or on the blog post shared in our Australasian Christian Writers Facebook Group.

Let’s chat!

Yes. Not every author but when I read a book I can’t put down or impacts me I will write. It also depends if there is contact information as some authors may have a website but have no contact information. In this case I will just leave a review. It is so much easier to sent a message to an author now. Back in the late 90’s I did write letter to an American Author via his publisher. I was so excited when I received a reply from him and we wrote a couple of letters. That was Gilbert Morris. I still have his replies and photos he shared.

Your turn.

  1. Wow, Jenny. A letter back from Gilbert Morris! How very exciting. I never would have dreamed that was possible. Fast forward a few decades to this century. I’ve subscribed to a few online newsletters and get a monthly email drop into my inbox. I’ve received a couple of brief emails from a few authors after I’ve sent them a response that something that inspired me. I took a road trip to meet my favourite Tasmanian author after we corresponded by email for a while. And I used Facebook messenger to contact a NZ author when I saw a prayer request in a group. We exchanged messages for a while.
So no letters from me, but emails and messages – and I’ll leave a review

    1. Yes I was so excited he sent a list of all his books at that stage and 2 photos and his home address on the letter. ( I wrote via the publisher). I did write to a couple other authors via the publisher one was returned unopened. I have written to authors via email and become friends with several. groups on places like goodreads you can get to know authors. (we wont mention in the 80’s I wrote to several Days of our Lives stars).

  2. No, I haven’t ever written to an author. It hasn’t ever crossed my mind to do so.

    1. I think the main reason I first thought of it was I had written to some actors (Robert Colby was the first) and was so excited when I got a reply. But Gilbert Morris’s series set in the civil war had such an impact. in the second letter he said he thought Jenny would be a good name to use in the House of Winslow series. The authors I contacted via websites etc were before FB and Goodreads were really a thing.
