Welcome to Tuesday Book Chat. This is where we encourage book lovers to answer our bookish question of the week.

Today’s question is:

Have you read books where you disliked the cover?

Yes. I won a book years back that if I had seen the book in a bookstore I wouldn’t given it a second glance. It turned out to be an excellent book. I am not a fan of the new trend cartoonish covers either but I have read some of the books. On the other hand there are books I don’t like the cover and haven read them either.

Your turn.

I look forward to reading your comments here or at the FB group. Remember all comments go into the monthly drawer for a gift voucher.

    1. Sorry late in replying I had a big day Monday and was exhausted yesterday. The book I read was Sanctuary by Molly Bull. It is set in France and deal with the Huguenots and with some of them fleeing the prosecution of their religion. It was actually really good and I learnt so much but the cover was atrocious.

  1. Yes. One of my favourite authors had a cover I didn’t like, but I still bought, read and enjoyed the book.

    1. I would say that would be one reason I would still read a book.

  2. I’ve read books with a cover I didn’t like. Dislike is a bit too strong, but I didn’t find it at all appealing. It’s what’s inside that counts. But I might not pick up a physical book in a store to see whether what’s inside might be of interest. However, the title and the author might overcome the negative effect of the cover image. For an e-book, I’m more interested in the blurb and the Look Inside. Covers can attract me to check out a book, but they seldom repel me as long as they aren’t obscene.

    1. That is true it can depend on an author. When its a author I know or love it may be different but if its a new to me author I may not give it a second look at a bookstore.
With some bookshops having books in Alphabetical order and not in genre I have skipped over books cos I didn’t like a cover or have thought the cover was for a heavy suspense only to later find it was romance. I couldn’t go back to buy the book cos the cover is so dark and I can’t get over the suspense feel.
The bookshop I go to in the city occasionally has a large section of fiction so there is so much to choose from. Not all are facing the front some are just the spine then I have to pull it out to look at.
